Gilbert Cuevas, Sr., 68

Gilbert Cuevas, Sr. 68 of Lancaster, PA passed away unexpectedly at Penn State Hershey Medical. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Thomasa (Rodriguez) and Diosdado Cuevas. He was the loving husband for 50 years to Isabel (Diaz) Cuevas.
Gilbert was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corp where he was a Weapons Specialist. Gilbert was a selfless man. He loved to help those around him. He was a New York City Correctional Officer, who received a Meritorious Service Award in 1978 for acting to protect the Citizens of New York by effectuating an arrest while off duty. He loved to work on computers and listen to music. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed listening to music and was a talented trumpet player. Gilbert was the life of the party and a father figure to many. His generous heart will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Gilbert is survived by his children: Valerie Garcia (Hipolito “Polo” Garcia), Gilbert Cuevas, Jr., Sammy Cuevas, Vincent Cuevas and Ricardo Morales; grandchildren: Zavier Cuevas, Ashley Garcia (David Williams), Kayla Garcia (Antonio Graves), and Angelo Garcia; great-grandchildren: Aaliyah Williams, Aniyah Williams, Elijah Cunningham, Josiah Garcia, Ayden Graves and military brother Sammy Bedoy; sisters: Edwina Cuevas and Noemi Cuevas as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of these Non Profit Veteran Organizations: Semper Fi Fund semperfifund.org or Fisher House Foundation fisherhouse.org.

Gilbter was the best uncle anyone could have, everyone would want a uncle like him, he has so much love to give . He made me laugh so much. He could cook the world best spaghetti for me. I have nothing be good memories of him. I love him and his wife and kids with all my heart and soul. My church is praying for all of us. God bless you Gilbert. Thank you so much for bing my uncle.
