Geraldine E. Scudner, 85

Geraldine E. Scudner, 85, died unexpectedly at home in Lancaster on July 5, 2009.  She was with her husband, Frank G. Scudner Jr.  They had been married 66 years.

Geraldine was born in Queens, NY and lived in Bethlehem, PA, Sag Harbor, NY, and Elizabeth City, NC before moving to Lancaster.  Her frequent visits to Puerto Rico  over a six-year period related to her husband’s work was a travel highlight.  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and fishing and boating with her husband and family.

She was a member of the United States Power Squadron and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary serving most recently as a member of the Elizabeth City, NC Flotilla.  She worked as a secretary at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA for over 20 years.  During that time her work was recognized by the distinguished professor of history, Lawrence Henry Gipson, who acknowledged her dedication in his 15-volume study “The British Empire before the American Revolution”.

Geraldine was a member of St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church and devoted time daily to the Rosary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Judith O’Connell, Sag Harbor, NY, Frank G. Scudner III (husband of Victoria Remo), Womelsdorf, PA, Patricia Accettola, Chesapeake, VA, Peter D. Scudner (husband of Theresa Willner), Lancaster, PA, Deirdre Westerhoff (wife of Bill), Dillwyn, VA, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1pm on Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Reverend Msg. Richard Youtz as Celebrant.  Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel Inc., 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, 17543 from 7:00 – 9:00PM, a Vigil service with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 8:45 PM. Friends will be received at the church on Friday, July 10, 2009 from 12:00-1:00PM.
