We met Fred years ago when he and Deb came to visit us way out in Manhattan, Kansas when my late husband John and I were in grad school. What I remember most fondly is our hike out onto Konza Prairie in the late afternoon and on to dusk. We sat among the tall grasses on a lovely hillside with a prime vista. The nighthawks were catching insects and making little sonic booms on their deep dives. It was so beautiful and serene. We four enjoyed that time in each others’ company in silence. The other clear thing was how good Deb and Fred were together. So very sorry for your loss, Deb. Wishing you strength, good memories, and peace. Terri Shuman
