Frederick C. Dieffenbach, 95
Frederick C. Dieffenbach, 95, of 348 Hilltop Dr, Ephrata, died Thursday at the Maple Farms Nursing Home in Akron. Born in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Hervey E. and Jennie C. Rhoads Dieffenbach. He was married for 58 years to the late Catherine M. Schindler Dieffenbach, who died in 1989.
He was a 1927 graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg. Retiring in 1975, he worked as a technician for Bell Telephone of PA for 46 years. During his career, he served as president of the Telephone Pioneers of America and president of the 6th Ward Citizens Assn. of Lancaster.
Mr. Dieffenbach was very active in the local Boy Scouts. His associations and accomplishments included his participation with the Lancaster-Lebanon Council of the Boy Scouts of America as a committee chairman for 35 years, a member of the Throwing Bull Tribe, and his 1979 honoring and induction into the Order of The Arrow as a vigil member. He was associated with Boy Scout Troop #25 of Lancaster, and her received the Certificate of Service from the Lancaster-Lebanon Council.
He is survived by 2 daughters: Beverly J. married to Carl H. Gimber of Lancaster, Maryann married to Douglas G. Phillips of Millersville; 2 sons: Frederick C. married to Catherine E. Dieffenbach of Manheim, Robert E. married to Kathryn E. Dieffenbach of Lititz; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers: George E., Oliver H., Clyde M. and Jacob G. Dieffenbach, and by three sisters: Harriet J., Mary A. Bollinger, and Martha Lindsay.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 7-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the funeral service to follow at 8PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frederick’s memory to J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation, Box 702, Newmanstown, PA 17073 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 187604-4125.
