Frank J. Broderick, Jr., 93

Frank J. Broderick, Jr., 93, formerly of Millersville, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Country Meadows of Lancaster. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Frieda M. (Allison) Broderick, and the beloved husband of Ruth E. (Zecher) Broderick, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.
A graduate of Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore MD, Frank lettered in Ice Hockey and Baseball. He later attended Penn State University, Harrisburg Campus. A member of the U.S. Navy, Frank honorably served his country from 1943-1946 during WWII, attaining the rank of Radioman Third Class, serving aboard the USS Spangler, a destroyer escort in the South Pacific.
Frank entered the insurance field in 1965 and was the owner of the Senior Citizens Health Insurance Agency. He earned his CLU designation from American College in 1977, and served as President of the Lancaster Chapter of CLU’s in 1982. He was a member of the Lancaster Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Prior to 1965, he worked as a Sales Representative for Ludens, Pillsbury and Continental Can Co. He was the founder of G.A.T.E. Club of Lancaster, which held its first meeting in October of 1973 and is still in existence today.
A very active member of the community, Frank was a life member of the Sertoma Club of Lancaster, serving as President from 1979-1980, and earning the Distinguished Gold Coat Honor Presidents Award. He also served as Past Distinguished District Governor from 1982-1984, and Past District Representative for the Sertoma International Foundation. In 1980, he created the first Serteen Club at Lancaster Catholic High School, and was a co-founder and member of the M. Elvin Byler Memorial Sertoma Club. He was a former member of the Lancaster Elks Lodge BPOE #134, Lancaster Pirates Club and the Harrisburg American Legion.
Frank studied at the Larry London School of Music in Baltimore, MD, and became a professional pianist, playing for stage shows and clubs in the Baltimore, Washington, Harrisburg and Lancaster areas for over 30 years. An avid Ballroom Dancer, he was a member of the Cotillion Club of Lancaster and Quadrille Dance Club, serving as past President of each club. Also an avid golfer, Frank was a member of the Conestoga Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors from 1997-2000. He won two Lanco Senior Tournaments in his age bracket; made three Holes-in-One, one on his 75th birthday; and three Eagles.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, Frank is survived by three daughters, Kathleen B. Denton, C. Robyn Broderick and J. Kimberly Broderick and her fiancée, Michael Bowers, all of Harrisburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Eugene F. Broderick, and a sister, Elizabeth A. Fields.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Conestoga Country Club, 1950 Stone Mill Road, Lancaster, PA, 17603, at 2:00 PM. Contributions in Frank’s memory may be offered to the American Lung Association, C/O Louise Lyons, 630 Churchmans Road, Suite 202, Newark, DE 19702 – earmark for “COPD Research”.
