Frank E. Dettinger, 80
Frank E. Dettinger, 80, of Conestoga View, formerly of Louise Ave. Lancaster, died Tuesday December 26, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Mauch Chunk, PA, he was the son of the late Elvin and Bertha Heffner Bennyhoff.
Mr. Dettinger was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he worked for 14 years at Oregon Dairy Market. Frank served his country during WWII in the US Army as a Private in Europe. He played the coronet in the Army Ground Forces Band. After discharge, he volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol for many years obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Brethren in Christ Church, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, 32 Degree Mason, and the American Legion Post 34. Frank enjoyed collecting and reading about classic trains. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, watching football and was a loving and devoted dog owner. He will be remembered fir his great sense of humor and cheerful smile, a rabble-rouser who will be missed and lovingly remembered. The care given by the loving and capable staff at Conestoga View and Lancaster General Hospital is deeply appreciated by the family.
Surviving are his sons, Steven, married to Mary Dettinger of Lancaster, and Gary, married to Rachel Dettinger of Spring Grove; four grandchildren, Laura, John, Jeremy, and Olivia; a stepson, Richard, married to Krista Denlinger of Lancaster, and two half sisters, Joanne, married to Les Albaugh, and Shirley, married to Steve Hassick, all of Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Jane Bennyhoff of Allentown.
Funeral Services will be held at Brethren in Christ Church, 1865 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 12 noon. A viewing will be held at
The Conestoga View Chapel, 900 E. King St., Lancaster, on Friday from 6-8PM and at the Brethren in Christ Church on Saturday from 11AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to the American Heart Association, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604.
