Florence M. Vlassis, 82

Florence M. Vlassis, 82, of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly April 24, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Reading, PA, Florence was the daughter of the late Euripides and Mary E. (Calludis) Mavrides. She was married for 60 years to Wallace T. Vlassis.
Florence worked for Lancaster School District as a Library Aide for 13 years before retiring in 1985.
A member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Florence was a member of the Philoptochos Society, and was past president of Daughters of Penelope.
She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and WITF TV.
In addition to her husband, Florence is survived by her children, Diane M. (Kenneth) Gunzenhauser of Lititz, Theodore W. (Christine M. ) Vlassis of Mountville, Nicholas W. Vlassis, Lititz, and daughter-in-law, Christine M. Vlassis, of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, Andy (Ashley) Westphal, Anthony & Stephen Vlassis, Nicholas & Jenna Vlassis, 2 great-grandchildren, Maya & Violet Westphal. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen E. Koumaras, Constantine Mavrides, and Michael Mavrides.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Alexander Goussetis officiating. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. Mr. Vlassis:
I didn’t know your wife, but my mother worked with you at Penn Manor High School, and I remember you from my years of attending from 1964 to 1968. If my parents were still living, I know they would have sent you a condolence card or note. I also remember seeing you over the years on the sales floor at Watt & Shand at Park City – a remembrance from what seem to have been somewhat more refined days from our past.
