Emil F. Mitman, 93

Emil F. Mitman, 93, of Lancaster died November 29, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Arlene R. Multer Mitman for 55 years.
He was born on May 18, 1924 in Bethlehem, Pa. to Emil and Hermina (Ofchus) Mitman.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947. He was a Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania from 1952 to 2001. He graduated from the American Management Association course in 1965.He was issued The CEIR Institute for Advanced Technology certificate in Management Science in 1965.
He was employed by Pennsylvania Power and Light Company from 1947 to 1989. During that time, he held various engineering positions in Allentown and promoted to Regional Engineer for Lehigh and Scranton Divisions. In 1966 he was appointed Construction Superintendent-lines in the Construction Department. In 1972 he transferred to Lancaster as Operating Manager-Lancaster Division.
From 1952 to 1964 he was also an instructor at Penn State Extension in Allentown. In Lancaster he participated in Junior Achievement Program in various school districts in the county. After retirement he substituted in teaching at Lancaster Catholic High School for two years. From 1991 he volunteered as the Math Counts teacher at Resurrection Catholic School through 2008 and advanced Algebra in 2009 and 2010.
He was a member of Conestoga Country Club and was an avid golfer. He also was a life member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and The Society of Professional Engineers.
He belonged to St Philip Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene and son Thomas, husband of Kathleen of Wadsworth Ohio. He is survived by his son James married to Catherine C. of Willow Street, daughter Jeanne at home, granddaughters Natalie Nathan of Vienna, Va. married to Dr. Michael Nathan, Maryann Martin of McMurry Pa. married to Nathan Martin, and six great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter; a brother Frank Mitman from Bethlehem and sister Helen Dominquez, of Milford Delaware also survive him. Brother Edward Mitman and sister Florence Linden preceded him in death.
A Viewing will be on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 am followed by a Mass at 11:00 am at St Philip Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike Lancaster Pa 17603-6216. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
