September 29, 2017

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Hain, 94, of Manheim, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Ganse) Hecker. She was the loving wife of David H. Hain, Jr., with whom she shared 27 years of marriage.
Betty was a 1941 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. While raising her children, she worked full time as a long distance operator for Bell of PA, from where she retired after 40 years of service. She was a volunteer with Lancaster Meals on Wheels for over 19 years. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and was a regular adorer at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Betty enjoyed oil painting farm landscapes and countryside scenes. She was an accomplished xylophone player and enjoyed classical music. Betty loved spending time with her family and considered time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her greatest treasure.
In addition to her husband David, Betty is survived by her children, Theresa Kane and her husband Stephen of Bear, DE; Stephen Swartz and his wife Gwyneth of Lancaster; and Mark Swartz and his wife Sue of Millersville. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Becky, Kevin, Amanda, Joseph and Nick; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Stephen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph Street, Lancaster, PA, 17603, with Father Allan F. Wolfe as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
