Elizabeth De Jesus, 65
February 01, 2017
Elizabeth De Jesus, 65, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Añasco, Puerto Rico she was the daughter of the late Luis Alfonso Ruiz and Cecilia Seguinot Rivera. She was the loving wife of Ramiro De Jesus with whom she shared over 39 years of marriage.
In the mid 70’s she worked as a translator for the Migrant Workers program in Lebanon County. In the mid 80’s she took on the role of co-pastoring the church, Centro Cristiano Palabra de Fe located in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Upon returning to the United States she worked as a teacher’s aid in the Elizabethtown school district and in the late 90’s as a childcare worker in the Lancaster City school district.
Elizabeth’s life was defined by a desire to serve others. For seven years she was the primary caregiver for her mother who died of Alzheimer’s disease and played a role in caring for her grandmothers who suffered from the same disease. Before Elizabeth herself fell victim to Alzheimer’s disease she greatly enjoyed looking after her grandchildren. She is most famous for her delicious cooking and specialized in Puerto Rican cuisine. Elizabeth was also a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of NBA basketball and NCAA Women’s basketball. She never missed an opportunity to participate in a pick up game with her nieces, nephews and friends. Elizabeth loved music and her eclectic taste ranged from Christian Contemporary to Salsa Dura to East Coast Rap. Her brilliant smile and easy laugh will be what everyone who knew her will remember most.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Ramiro De Jesus, Jr., husband of Colleen of Spring Grove, PA and her daughter, Cesilia De Jesus Ruiz, wife of Steve Miller of Fresno, CA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Lilliana, Owen, Lorenzo, Roman, Olivia, Sofia and her four siblings, Nereida Chiles, Luis Ruiz, David Ruiz and Francisco Ruiz. She was preceded in death by her sister, Blanca Musser.
A Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Viewings will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8PM and again on Saturday from 11AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to Moravian Center Adult Day Services, 227 N. Queen St, 2nd Floor, Lancaster, PA 17603.
