Edwin R. Seace, Sr., 95

Edwin R. Seace, Sr., 95, of Manheim Twp., passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017. He was surrounded by the love of his family in the last days of his life under the care of Moravian Manor and Hospice & Community Care.

Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late William L. and Violet M. (Stouffer) Seace. He celebrated 63 years of marriage with his late Pauline G. (Barth) Seace before her death on January 5, 2006.

Ed graduated from John Harris High School in 1940, completing the first Industrial Arts curriculum, the predecessor of the Vocational Arts System, in the Harrisburg Public School system.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence CVL 22 from 1942 to 1945. His ship was torpedoed during the Tarawa campaign and Ed was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during the encounter. Ed also was the holder of the following medals: Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with 8 stars, American Defense, Philippine Liberation with 2 stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

Ed retired from PP&L in 1983 following 36 years of service as supervisor of system operations in Lancaster. He started his career with PP&L in Harrisburg, working first as a laborer in construction and then worked in various positions at the former Cedar Street Steam Electric Power Plant before advancing to system operator. Edwin transferred to Hazleton in 1963 and to Lancaster in 1970.

He was a member of Harrisburg Lodge #629 F. & A.M., secretary and newsletter editor of the USS Independence CVL Reunion Group, a life member of Purple Heart Chapter 107, Lancaster and of Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463. He also was past treasurer of the PP&L Retiree Club of Lancaster.

Ed is survived by two sons, William R. Seace and Walter R. Seace , husband of Gina of Neffsville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mildred (Rodkey) Seace of Lititz, son-in-law George Swartz of Lititz and sister-in-law Dot Seace of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his sons Edwin, Jr. and George R.Seace, daughter Shirley M. Swartz and his brothers Donald Seace and Marlin Seace.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Spacht -Snyder Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 127 S. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543, with The Rev. Dr. Kenneth H. Miller officiating. A viewing will take place 10-11 AM on Saturday. Interment with Military Honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery 11:30 AM Tuesday, Dec. 26th. Please omit Flowers.
