Edna Lewis Figart, 91
Edna Lewis Figart, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 24, 2007. Born on November 25, 1916, she had been a resident at Brethren Village for nearly 15 years. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Lancaster, PA.
Edna was born in TreThomas, Glamorgan, South Wales, the daughter of Bertie (Bert) Lewis and Bertha Elizabeth Jordan Lewis. She had one brother, Trevor C. Lewis, Sr., now deceased. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas O. Figart, Sr., whom she married on June 9, 1945, at the Arlington Presbyterian Church, Baltimore, Maryland. They have four married children; Kathleen, married to James D. Ohlson, Elizabeth, married to Dr. Harold A. Kime, Thomas O. Jr., married to Catherine Hess and Phyllis, married to Arthur C. Baughman. In addition, there are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Edna was a graduate of Philadelphia School of the Bible, and also took a number of Elementary Education courses at Millersville University. She taught at various public elementary schools, but settled in at the Lancaster Christian School, from which she retired in 1974.
She was active in the Lancaster Bible College Ladies’ Auxiliary, and taught Ladies’ Bible classes in the Lancaster area. She and her husband worked with the married couples at Lancaster Bible College, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2 P.M. at Grace Baptist Church, 1899 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster. Friends may greet the family after the service.
