Duane E. Hart, 62

December 28, 2019

Duane E. Hart, 62, of Lancaster, passed away tragically as a result of an accident on Saturday, December 28. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Ronald E. Hart and the late Margaret E. (Denlinger) Hart.

He was a proud member of the AMVETS Post #19, VFW Post #1690, and the American Order of Otters. Duane found great satisfaction in lending a helping hand to those he met. He loved fishing, riding his bike, music of all kinds, but especially country music, and was a diehard Eagles fan. Duane also enjoyed tinkering with mechanical things and was a handyman.

Duane will be greatly missed by his family who he loved dearly. In addition to his father, he is survived by his siblings: Dody Hart, Dawn Cockrell, and Denton Hart; and his nieces and nephews Tabitha and Edward Cockrell and Dustin Hart, husband of Chellie.

A gathering to celebrate Duane’s life will be held from 1PM to 4PM Sunday, January 12, 2020 at AMVETS Post 19, 715 Fairview Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603. The service will start at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to AMVETS Post 19 for Duane Hart at the address above.

Duane, by far, had to be one of the nicest people I have ever known. He played a serious game of pool and always with a smile. We had many laughs together at the amvets. You will be missed.

My first memory of Duane was when i was in kindergarten and fell into a huge mud puddle wearing a dress. It was Duane’s hands I saw first, reaching down to pick me up out of that puddle. We were friends from that moment 47 yrs ago. Duane loved helping others. His Holiday spirit was contagious. He loved helping hand out Guber Balls spreading Christmas cheer as he made his way around the room. My sincere condolences to his family who he held dear in his heart. He was so excited about the motorized bike his sister got him for Christmas this year. May he rest in peace. He will be missed by all who knew him.

It’s so hard to even speak upon the  many memories  I have with Duane. I had Christmas dinner at his table with his family.. this horrible tragedy has impacted so many and  my heart is breaking. I don’t think he realized how much he was loved and the way he loved life and would be excited over small things;  big things holidays etc.. his heart was so big and all of our hearts are just broken. I will take comfort in knowing that you are with Mom cuz I know you missed her so very much you just told me that Thursday. I miss you already and everytime I cry I will remember all the fun times and how you would make me laugh and how we would carry on and play argue and just laugh about it! RIP my brother.

Noble words will be written and said about our dearly departed brother in the coming days and weeks. Few will be written as to the moxy of his pool game. A fierce competitor, Duane never gave up on a game of pool. He was such an inspiration to the Billiard community, team mates, and fellow competitors. The void that is left is unbearable. Rack em up brother, I await the day we will once again meet upon the green felt. Enjoy the table you now play, where the balls roll true, you never miss-cue, and those blue eyes dance with excitement. Rest in peace my brother.

my sincere condolences to the Hart family. I cant tell you how much I’ll miss Duane. I started driving him home back in 2011. He would come to the Dirty Ol Tavern when I worked there and wait there until I was done. He did the same when I worked at the Amvets. He was one of my best buddies and my protector. I’m so glad I talked to him xmas day. He said “I love ya, trish the dish!” and I said “I love ya too, duane the pain!” It was our joking names for each other. I will truly and surely miss my friend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Duane at the Amvets post 19 just a short time ago, however I feel as if I have known him for years. His smile and great attitude always put a smile on my face. I always loved seeing him walking in the door. We got to know each other to where we would sit and talk about what bands were coming up, how the Eagles just won or what game he was playing on his phone. What a gentle giant. Rest In Peace my friend I will miss you dearly. “Go Eagles”
