Dr. Michael F Mayers

September 27, 2019

It is with a heavy heart and much sorrow, that we inform every one of the death of our son, Dr. Michael F Mayers. He passed away Friday morning September 27th, 2019 in his home of a massive heart attack. Michael was an amazing man who cared deeply for his family and his clients. His story is one of inspiration and accomplishment.

He graduated high school in 1986 and went to Bucks County Community College and surprisingly dropped out after 1 semester. Unsure of a direction, Michael enlisted in the US Coast Guard for a 4-year term. While in the Coast Guard he learned many things. Chief among them was discipline, many work skills, and an appreciation for the members of the Armed Services who serve our Country. But most important he found himself. After his enlistment was up, he went directly back to school and graduated with top marks and an associate degree in Automotive Mechanics. He very quickly got a job and started a career. After a few life hiccups, he came to his mother & I with a pronouncement. He wanted to be a “Dr. of Psychology”. To our shock, we found out he had fully researched the path he would have to take, how difficult a task it was and was ready to move forward. He got accepted to Temple University and graduate with almost a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He earned a full scholarship for a 5-year Ph.D. program at the University of Connecticut to accomplish & complete his goals.

Fast forward 7 years, his family had the extreme pleasure seeing Michael Mayers become Dr. Michael F Mayers, Licensed Psychologist. And start doing what he told us he wanted to do a decade earlier. In 2016 Michael ventured into the world of private practice and soon became active in many things related to his passion, helping people.

“The breadth and diversity of psychology can be seen by looking as some of its best-known thinkers. While each theorist may have been part of an overriding school of thought, each brought a unique and individual voice and perspective to the field of psychology”. (By Kendra Cherry ). This was Michael, he brought his own background, life and education to be the Doctor he was, to develop his own style of treatment.

It does not seem real yet that a man who took such good care of his body & mind could be taken from us so early in his life. He will be missed by all who knew him, both personally & professionally.

He is survived by his mom Carmen Marden, a sister Michelle, stepbrother & stepsister David & Jess. He had 2 Aunts & Uncles and 7 nieces & nephews. He had too many friends, patients and others to mention here. He was loved and respected by many people.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring-Ford Counseling Services, 201 N. 4th St, Royersford, PA 19468.

Interment will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

I am just heartbroken. He helped me through a very difficult time in my life. He will be sorely missed! An absolutely astounding human being. I am so sorry to hear he has passed. You raised a wonderful boy. And if it’s any consolation, his help will stay with me all my days.

I just found out today that the world lost this wonderful human.
Michael was my therapist and he was also someone I would consider a friend.  His gentle and kind heart will be so missed.  My heart goes out to all who miss him and loved him.

I only met Michael once or twice through family relationships with Susan and Curt, Michael’s aunt and uncle. However I remember the conversations over the years and from a distance with Curt and Susan about Michael’s journey through his short life as Michael found himself and then worked diligently to complete his studies and become the person he wanted to be. I am so gratified to read comments by so many who were helped by him.   My sincere condolences to his immediate and extended family and all those who will miss him.

I was one of his patients for about two years by now. I had problems with depression that prevented me from doing much on my own. I just thought that was how things were just going to be. Someone gave me the suggestion though to meet up with him for help and through those sessions, I got out of my old job, moved out on my own, and have been dealing with stress a whole lot better. He helped me look through my mind and find better outcomes. I had ideas of ending it before, but all of that is gone now. I cannot thank him enough for the work he has done. Not only that he just felt like a strong friend on top of all he has done.

I was shocked to see of the passing of Dr. Mayers.  I was scheduled to see him at the time of his passing.  Let me say first the obituary was beautifully written, showing the strong love for him.  Carmen, you will experience no greater loss.  Only the passing of time will ease the pain somewhat so please take the time to grieve and revisit the condolences expressed by all of us who loved him.  Know you cannot see him or touch him any longer in this life but if you are still and in silence you will feel him.  I speak from experience.  He was extremely bright, witty, insightful and compassionate and he loved you and his family very much.  We talked often about you.  As an example, the cruise you had within the last few years.  He was a good friend and a human being who left this world a better place.  Can’t do much better.  How proud you must be.

Very shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I saw him as a patient for the past 3 years and he helped me through a lot of my deepest struggles. On top of that, he was really great to talk to in general. I would drive from Philadelphia to his office just to see him. He made a big difference in my life, and I’m sure he was a positive influence in many other lives as well.
Thank you Michael for everything. You will be missed. God Bless his family and closest friends.

I cannot express the extent of sadness I feel from his passing. Michael saved my life. He was an amazing man who was there for me through the absolute worst times of my life. I saw him, as a patient, over the course of 7 years. Sometimes I wouldn’t have anything new to discuss or work through but I would go in just to see him. I loved talking to him. We could spend entire sessions just chatting. He was quick-witted, intelligent, caring and incredibly fun. He was so dearly loved. I am sorry for your loss and wish you comfort through this time.

So sorry to hear of your sudden loss of Michael. I knew Michael for over a year and learned how hard he worked in the gym to stay fit and healthy, how well read he was with his general knowledge of almost everything and what a sincere giver he was to his patients. He was very talented. I will miss him and I pray he will rest peacefully. God bless

To Michael’s parents, siblings, friends and all who knew him, I am so sorry for your loss. Looking at his obituary photo, it is hard to comprehend that he is gone. I only knew Dr. Mike for a few years while under his care and counseling, and I am devastated at his passing. Working with Mike, I was able to make great strides in my personal life, and I am at a loss knowing that his guiding words will no longer help me on my journey in this complex worlds. I will never forget, however, the lessons he taught me and the inner peace that has resulted from his wise counsel. I am lucky to have experienced it. I’m sure my story is not unique and that Dr. Mike has provided comfort and strength to many people in his role as counselor and/or friend. I hope this brings you some peace in this time of sorrow.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Mayers’ passing.  I was a patient this year during a difficult time with chronic pain.  The techniques he taught me helped me through many rough periods.  His support and encouragement provided me the strength to advocate for myself and believe the right doctors and treatment plan would bring relief.  I’m not sure I would have made that leap without Dr. Mayers’ support.  My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and patients.

I met Dr. Mayers while working at one of the worst jobs of life. He came into work, a bit tipsy, saddened over the loss of his cat. I sympathized deeply with him and we had a long conversation. He gave me his card and I ended up seeing him for almost a year. We became kinda close, bonding over Pokemon and our pasts.
When I walked into his office, I was told that he had passed away. He lives down in the same street I do. I couldn’t help but mourn the loss, staring into his office one last time, knowing he will never walk into it again. He helped me a tremendous amount in my personal life, helping me get through my depression and anxiety.
He advised me to make schedules for myself and to become disciplined, something I struggle greatly with. He taught me to take care my heart, body, mind and soul. He was very big on that. If I can honor his memory in any way, I’ll take better care of myself and play Pokemon Go.
My boyfriend and I will miss him greatly. If there’s anything beyond this life, I hope he’s with his cat that he loved so much. Wherever you are, I hope you’re happy.
