Douglas Baxter Fulton, 32

April 19, 2017

Douglas Baxter Fulton, 32, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Manheim Township, died unexpectedly, on April 19, 2017 in Fort Myers, FL. of natural causes. He was born August 16, 1984 in Lancaster, PA, to Charles E. Fulton Jr. and Elaine M. (Reidenbach) Fulton.
Doug was a 2003 graduate of Manheim Township High School and a 2007 graduate from The School of Business at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Doug was a member of Sig Ep Fraternity.
Upon graduation he started his career at The Standard Insurance Company in Chicago, IL, later making his way to Philadelphia and working for Mutual of Omaha.
He was employed by Cigna Insurance, as a group sales representative with the employee benefits division, in Columbus, OH, where he resided for the past four and a half years.
In 2016, Doug served as treasurer for the German Village Garden Club, Columbus, OH.
He was member of Wedgewood Golf and Country Club, Powell, OH.
Doug loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Bermuda, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. He enjoyed summers in Ocean City and Stone Harbor, NJ with his friends. He was always looking for the next place to travel. He also enjoyed exploring microbreweries and collecting stickers from each one visited. He took copious notes in his moleskine notebooks and would share his explorations with friends and family.
He was a self-appointed “foodie”, and developed an expanded palate at an early age. By the age of ten, Doug was ordering escargot and foie gras from menus. Doug enjoyed entertaining his friends with backyard barbecues, sometimes getting up at 5 in the morning to smoke meats in his Green Egg. He roasted a whole pig to entertain his neighbors and friends. He often went to the North Market in Columbus for their ‘blue bag’ specials which contained three cuts of mystery meats. He once called home to find out how to cook tongue.
Doug was quirky and unique with a sarcastic sense of humor. He loved TN orange, Liverpool and Swansea City Soccer, skiing with Tyler, Bobby, and Pat wherever the snow took them. He was generous, kind and empathetic. He loved his family and friends and that love was returned to him.
Doug is survived by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 1st, 2017 at 10AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603 with The Rev. Robert Fulton as Celebrant, Doug’s uncle. A visitation will be held at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 Sunday evening from 6-9PM and again on Monday from 9-10AM at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be; Tyler Nickels, Louie Torres, Chris Albright, AJ Meisel, Dan Stratton, Gennaro DiSomma, Matt Cadle, and Ryan Schmidt.
Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Bartlett, Bobby Nickels, and Mike Otto.
“Doug, cheers to you… the glue for so many. You showed us character, love, and friendship. Thank you for everything you were. You will be missed but not forgotten.”
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Doug may be made to the Manheim Township Educational Foundation, 450A Candlewyck Road Lancaster, PA 17601 or to the Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Dr., Lancaster, PA 17601.

Wanted to let Doug’s family know, not that didn’t already, what a wonderful son you raised. He was a friend of my daughter’s Nicole and Devan, I got to know him through them he was so kind, sweet and his hospitality at his home was always wonderful. He was such a comfortable person to be around. And his smile was infectious you couldn’t help but to feel happy around him.
A little story of his kindness and compassion my daughter’s Nicole’s 3 cats were attacked by a dog and lost their lives, my girls were to distraught to gather them up so I was going to go. Doug looked at me and said I’m going with you, you’re not going alone. I told him no he didn’t have to but, he insisted. And would not take no for an answer. We ended up picking up my son and the three of us went, needless to say it’s wasn’t a pleasant situation but, we went to work and cleaned it so well you”d never known anything had taken place. As strange as this may sound we actually had some laughs, I think we had to just to get through it. He was a real trouper and I appreciated him so much. We left went straight to the bar near his house and had a well deserved drink or 2. You see he didn’t have to help, he didn’t need to put himself in that position but, he did because, he didn’t want me to go alone. It’s breaks my heart to know he was alone. Not to many would volunteer for a situation like that I couldn’t hug him enough that day for his strength and kindness.
When Nicole called me Sunday crying telling me what had happened to him my heart sank such a wonderful, beautiful soul taken way to soon.
My heart feels all of your hearts. Doug was truly a special person maybe to special for this earth. His smile will surely brighten the heavens.

I didn’t know Doug, but what wonderful tributes to him. From these, I feel fortunate to have had a glimpse of a young man who lived life to the fullest, with purpose and with a sense of fun and adventure. From Facebook comments I’ve seen of his in the past, I had already admired his compassion for others and his sense of fairness. What a wonderful human being who touched the lives of many in so many ways. He will obviously be missed by all those who knew him. My condolences to all who love him, but most especially to Elaine and Charlie. Much love to you both.

I got to know Doug well in his time in Philadelphia hanging out at the Ugly Moose and Deke’s BBQ discussing sports, life, and having a good time.  He was a wonderful friend to everyone, genuinely interested in people, and someone who had an upbeat way to see just about every situation.  My wife and I encouraged his move to Columbus knowing how much he would love it there–and he really did, as shown by the memorial comments on this page from his new-found friends in Ohio.  He was a stand up guy and the world needs more folks like him.  He will be missed.  With sincere condolences, David and Sloan Young

I know he will dearly missed by many and I am very happy I had the pleasure of meeting him. Our deepest sympathy to his family and everyone who loved him. Linda and Jon Sosnowski

Condolences and my deepest sympathy for the family.  Doug was a fantastic person and even better friend and neighbor. Like many people, I consider myself better for sharing some time on this earth with Doug.  The neighborhood won’t be the same without his smiling face, and I’ll miss our evenings on the patio argueing about sports and talking about life in general.  You were one of the good guys.
