Dorothy M. (Herr) Hawkins, 98

Dorothy M. (Herr) Hawkins, 98 of Conestoga, PA passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 in her home with family by her side. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Maude (Funk) Herr. She was the wife of the late Forrest H. Hawkins.

She worked at RCA in Lancaster for 26 years. While there, she made three good friends that lasted her lifetime, Joyce Sample and Shirley Lefever, both of Lancaster and the late Betty Weaver of Elizabethtown, PA.

She enjoyed the company of her lifelong friends, William and Lydia Barnett and her constant companion for years, her pet dog “Dawdee”. She also enjoyed gardening and took pride in her azaleas and rhododendrons.

A special thank you to Hospice & Community Care of Lancaster for their kindness and care.

She is survived by a son, Joel F., husband of Ruth Ann (Huber) Hawkins of Lancaster, PA, and a daughter, Maureen C. Staub of Conestoga, PA. In addition to her children she is survived by five grandchildren, Richard W. Huber of Conestoga, Michael C., husband of Susan (Bailey) Hawkins of Lancaster, Stacy L. (Huber), wife of Jeffrey L. Marcello of Conestoga, Craig A. Huber of Conestoga and Karen L. Hawkins of Adamstown, PA and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen M. (Hawkins) Huber, her son Richard F. Hawkins; brother, Richard H. Herr, her sister, Mildred (Herr) Bowman and her grandson, Brian Lee Huber.

In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes there will be no services.

Maureen,  I am so very sorry for the loss of maw Hawkins !!! she was an amazing woman … I admired her for all her hard work .. I also admire you for all you have done for her … I wish I would have called or come to visit as often as I had thought and asked about the two of you .. I will get in touch with you soon .. So sorry to hear of Mrs Hawkins passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all family members. Richard and I joined the army toughter in the early 1960s.
