Condolences to the Family

July 15, 2020

My condolences to the Bridgeman family.  Mrs. Bridgman was my first grade teacher. As an elementary school teacher myself for over 25 years, I have often recalled phonics lessons around her table; in particular, my awe at how she could make the strip of paper waver when she pronounced the “w” sound – I could never make my paper move like hers!
Sincerely,
Libby (Foerster) Echternach

I was so lucky to have Mrs. Bridgeman as my first grade teacher.  She was exactly the caring and loving teacher a shy first grader needed.  I still remember making the nose for the the vowel letter A.  I feel lucky that our families stayed in touch over the years and Mr and Mrs Bridgeman were able to come my wedding.  I remember the stories my mom would share of their time together.  My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Bridgeman, his sons and grandchildren.  Love, Kimberlee (Frerichs) Miller

It was a great honor to know Mrs. Bridgeman.  She was truly one of my mom’s favorite people, and my sister and I were so lucky to have her as part of our lives as both children and adults.  As a Penn Manor employee, I have visited Letort Elementary School often and each time have thought about Mrs. Bridgeman.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jim I was saddened to hear of Doris’s passing in the paper today. Actually I was shocked also because last night I dreamt of her. We were at a class for daycare and she was beautiful. She had a lovely dress on and was surrounded by so many people I had a hard time getting to her to talk to her. Doris was such a wonderful, compassionate, caring person. My deepest regrets to you and your family.

Dear Jim and family,
My heart-felt love goes out to you all for Doris’ passing. Jim, you were a wonderful husband to Doris. I was so lucky; I got to see it first-hand – the excitement Doris showed when she would ask me if you were coming yet, and I would walk/run down the hallway and return and say, ‘Here comes your boyfriend’ and she would light up. Doris would be dressed to the nines and look so young again with all the joy of youth. The many visits you made right after your knee operations – they couldn’t keep you two apart. Such love and devotion!
I remember the earlier days before the quarantine stopping by Doris’ room every day for a little visit and feeling the strong bond she had with her roommate, Dottie, who was usually sitting on Doris’ bed, and the quiet times of joining in on the bed with those two sweet women for a little ‘girl time’. And, oh the songs we sang – the 3 of us and then you would come and you would sing along – and the times we would all sing God Be With You Till We Meet Again to each other as I left. There were countless visits you and Doris had with so many wonderful people from the church – the joyful singing, the laughter, the flowers, the homemade gifts your friends brought to you. And your family was there for you in their visits and so encouraging; my goodness, you and Doris are very much loved!
Thank you for sharing your walk and your life with me and for being such an example of true love and commitment. Continue in your testimony of how much you love the Lord and how faithful He has been, and will be, to you throughout your life here. May God be with you till we (all) meet again.
Love to you, Donna Barnes

I am so sorry for your loss.  Doris and Marsha were hooked at the hip and Marsha always enjoyed the time she spent with her on their monthly outings.  And Kimberlee was so fortunate to have her as a first grade teacher. Both of you were always so kind to our family.  Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Bridgeman (Miss Shenk at the time) was my second grade teacher the year she and James became engaged. I truly enjoyed being her student. She was a lovely example of a teacher and a caring adult.
