Donald A. Eidam, 81

April 28, 2022

Donald A. Eidam, 81, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022.

He was the husband of Cynthia C. Cameron Eidam, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage this past October 10th. Born in Reading, he was the son of late Harry and Marian Meck Eidam.

A professor at Millersville University, Don taught math and computer science for 38 years until his retirement. During his career, he had served as the chairperson of the Faculty Senate. He was a graduate of MIT and earned his doctorate at Northwestern University.

He played tennis and enjoyed skiing, mountaineering, hiking, camping and backpacking. In years past, he was a Junior Ranger at Glacier National Park. He loved to travel with his wife, and was a very detailed planner of these trips. He also organized skiing trips to Europe for Millersville faculty. Don also loved his cats.

In addition to his wife, Cindy, he is survived by his cousin, Linda Illig, of Reading.

Services will be private. Please make contributions in Don’s memory to The Pet Pantry of Lancaster, 26 Millersville Rd., Lancaster, PA 17603.

Don was one of the most well-loved and eccentric teachers I had at Millersville.  I had him for Artificial Intelligence class in 1986, and I thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style.  The consensus among the students was that he was “the best”.   And entertaining!  I was thinking of him today and decided to use Google to track him down, a year too late sadly.   My deepest condolences to his family and loved one.

Cindy, I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
Don was always so kind and helpful to me even though I was an adjunct faculty member. I agree with Colleen.
His enthusiasm and love for mathematics was contagious and I am blessed to have known him.  Pat Brislin

Don was by far one of my favorite colleagues at Millersville University! He was a kind and intelligent human being who treated women fairly always, at a time when not everyone did. My sincerest regards!

Kathy and I are sorry for your loss Cindy.  I’ll always remember the good times: the 2 times we went to Daytona Beach for a week at Spring Break.  He put that tanning lotion on and he was orange from it.  I was best man at his first marriage. And there was the time that he drove Dr. Warner Von Braun (after his speaking engagement) to the Lancaster train station in his Fiat, me crammed in the back (no back seats in a 124 Spyder).  And the last time I visited you both in your house in Lancaster, discussing how much work was needed on it.  And of course, sleeping in his closet while at Millersville after a party at the farm house.  We re-discovered a photo of him playing with Allison & Jamie (2-4 years old) at our home in Phoenixville.  He told me then that he thought he would have made a great dad.

Dear Cindy,
I was saddened to hear of Don’s passing and want to extend my condolences to you.  Don was one of the Sunday night tennis group “guys” and I always looked forward to being on the court with him.  As an MU colleague, I very much appreciated his support of the music students–especially Glorious Sounds of the Season which I know you both seemed to enjoy.

Don taught my husband at Millersville and  remained a dear friend. He even chauffeured us for our wedding! He was the sweetest man and the biggest teddy bear. It was wonderful knowing how much joy you gave him, Cindy. Our hearts ache for you, and we are keeping you in our prayers, always.

Don was the smartest person I have ever personally known.  He was an inspiration to me from the moment I met him during my job interview with the Math Department at Millersville University February 1988.  Not only was he smart, he was wise and kind.  I am so happy that he found a wonderful life with Cindy.

Dear Cindy, I’m so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He was one of my closest friends at MU since we both joined the Math Dept in 1967 along with Marsh Anderson. I had the highest respect for Don’s teaching excellence in the classroom as did all of his students over his 38 year career.  His teaching evaluations by his students were always among the best in our department in both introductory and advanced Math courses. Even after his retirement he kept in touch with many of his former students and would tell me about their many career successes. His love of travel made me get his recommendations on which countries to visit and my first trip to Europe was to his favorite, Italy. I’m still hoping to visit Costa Rica, another of his favorite places. I will miss him.
