Dennis “Denny” E. Cunningham, 69

January 15, 2021

Dennis “Denny” E. Cunningham, 69, of Carlisle, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2021. Born April 30, 1951 in Hagerstown, MD, Dennis was the son of the late William “Bill” and Phyllis (Sampsell) Cunningham. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Rose Judd.

A 1969 graduate of Carlisle High School, Dennis went on to hold various positions throughout the years. His longest tenure was as a warehouse associate with AECOM, an infrastructure consulting firm, where he started in 1993 and retired in 2018.

Regarded as a car fanatic, Dennis often attended the local Carlisle car shows. Dennis was fond of old vintage vehicles, especially Corvettes and Mustangs. He attended Carlisle United Methodist Church for many years where he helped in many capacities. Above all, Dennis enjoyed spending time with his large family. His presence among them will be greatly missed.

To cherish his memory, Dennis leaves his daughter, Nikki Rivera (wife of Ramón); former wife, Ginny Snyder Massey; three brothers: Darryl Cunningham (husband of Ruth), David Cunningham (husband of Sandy), and Derek Cunningham (husband of Debbie); and a sister, Donna Myers (wife of Paul). He will be missed by five grandchildren: Itzia, Tyler, Raquel, Paloma, and Liliana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Dennis can be made to the International Myeloma Foundation (myeloma.org/donate), 12650 Riverside Drive Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607 and / or Hospice and Community Care (hospiceandcommunitycare.org/ways-to-give), 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552.

Private services for Dennis will be held virtually in the comfort of his family’s home on January 30th, 2021, officiated by Pastor Mira Hewlett from Carlisle United Methodist Church.

Condolences to the Family

January 31, 2021

Dennis was an extraordinarily kind person with such a giving, patient, and caring heart. He pretty much dedicated the last four years of his life caring for our mother, Ikuko Zimmerman, during her senior years and took her on lots of adventure trips, to church, to lakes and parks, and out to restaurants every day. Sometimes I wondered why a guy five years older than me would dedicate his life for someone he met at church and drove back and forth to church, but over the years I realized he was just a good, caring, dedicated person. There should be more people in the world like him.  We are forever grateful. He always told us my mom saved his life. I think it went both ways.  He is and will be so missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Denny’s passing.  I knew him in high school and later from church!  He always had a smile on his face for everyone and never failed to ask me how I was!  He was a good friend and I will really miss speaking to him at church each Sunday! Special prayers go out to Donna and Paul!

I am so sad that Dennis is not with us, Dennis was a volunteer on the Gathering Ministry Team at the Carlisle UMC for many years.  We became friends.  Dennis volunteered in many other capacities at our church.  So kind,  He will be missed.  I Want to extend  my deepest smypathy to his daughter and her family, Donna and Paul Myers and to Dennis’ brothers.
