October 08, 2017

Deborah “Debbie” A. Oettel, 61, of Lancaster entered into heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 8, 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the Thelma (Gray) and Paul L. Frey. She was the loving wife of Charles “Chuck” Oettel, Jr., with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.
Debbie was a nurse for over 40 years and most recently an RN with Mountville Family Practice. She was a member of Grace Church at Willow Valley. Debbie enjoyed working in her flower garden and nursing. She loved spending time outdoors and visiting the family cabin as well as the shore. She enjoyed many types of music from gospel to jazz, but mostly enjoyed attending Chuck’s shows. She loved spending time with her family and considered time spent with her family as her greatest treasure.
In addition to her husband Chuck, Debbie is survived by her sister, Phyllis Bireley (Richard G.) of Lancaster; her sisters in law, Lori Staffieri (Louis) of Conestoga and Diana Lowe (Don) of Washington Boro; her mother and father in law, Patricia and Charles Oettel, Sr., of Conestoga; numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul L. Frey, Jr.
A Celebration of Debbie’s life will be celebrated at 3PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Grace Church of Willow Valley, 300 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA 17602, with Pastor John Smith officiating and Pastor Robert Brody co-officiating. Friends and family will be received from 2-3PM prior to the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Debbie’s memory may be offered to AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (Lancaster Chapter), 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603 or to AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603

Debbie was a special care giver and now she is with the lord walking on streets of gold. She definitely left a great impression on us . How to live our lives.we miss the Sunday dinners at our house playing games at table especially Yahtzee. How we would laugh when she rolled a Yahtzee how she yelled it was so funny. This is missed so much , now she playing the game in heaven. She always supported her husband Chuck in his music by going to his gigs and helping with the equipment. She certainly was a care giver not only in her profession but at home also and in life. We all love you, you are a great example of a Christian. Look forward to seeing you again. To Chuck and family,
I was away all last week but when I came home and read the obits I was shocked to see Debbie’s picture there. I’ll miss seeing her at the doctor’s office – always a smile on her face – always such a gentle manner about her. I remember the times Bill and I had travelling with the “Great Escape” and the times we spent with you and Debbie and your family. My heart is heavy for you, Chuck. Keep trusting in the Lord who alone can bring peace and comfort.

Chuck and Family.
I am very sorry to hear about Debbie. I knew her from Mountville Family Practice. She was always
very kind and drew my blood and was Dr. Aikens nurse for a long time. I talked to her when I could
and knew she was a good person and a good worker. I was very surprised when I saw she had passed
away. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care and keep your faith.
When my husband passed away suddenly in 2005 if it wasn’t for my church and good friends I don’t
know where I would be.
Sincerely,
Rose Muchmore

My son Justin & I went to Mountville family practice for years  and I always will remember she was especially nice to my son Justin (special needs) and always went out out of her way to talk to him and made him feel comfortable! She had a way with the patients! When I saw this in the paper I was so shocked and even had tears in my eyes! She was just one of the best nurses in that practice! Sadly to say we won’t see her coming thru the doorway and saying’ Justin come on back! Feel so sorry for her family they already know what kind of person she was. We will pray for her husband Chuck & family!  Mrs.Deb Shaeffer & son Justin.

She was  a great nurse.  She could always answer all our questions.  Just remember that when you play your music, Debbie will be up in heaven enjoying is as she always did.  May the Lord be with you and comfort you.

i have been going through the memories of my sister since I lost her on Sunday. There are so many memories from our trip to California when we were kids to our trips to the shore as adults. She loved gardening and her and I shared that interest. I know she is in heaven now keeping the gardens beautiful. I know we will meet in that garden some day. Until then my memories and love for her will be with me.

I have not seen my cousin Debbie for what seems forever. But it was still a shock to find out that she had passed. I remember being at Aunt Thelma and Uncle Paul’s house in the summertime and playing with Debbie, Phyllis and Paul. My husband Henry and I send our condolences to the family. I have put Debbie’s nursing photo and info into the family tree, should anyone like to visit it. (www.myheritage.com) – Debbie’s first cousin, Vicky Frey Russell

Dear Chuck, You have been BLESSED for over 45 years to be with Debbie!  The next few months will be harder than anything you have ever had to endure – you MUST keep your FAITH and know that Debbie is in the arms of Jesus and looking down upon you.  Be strong and remember you have been BLESSED and will see your loving wife again.  Much love to you and lots of hugs.

Lori and I will greatly miss our Sister. Her nieces nephews will miss their aunt, play games after Sunday dinner with her ,games like Yahtzee, ono and other games. She would watch the kids out at the pool while just relaxing with her feet in the water, you could hear her laughter as she carried on with the kids. Chucks parents Chuck and Pat will also miss her greatly, Pat reminds us of baking Christmas cookies how much fun Debbie was when decorating the sand tarts. There many other family things and get togethers will be sadly missed. Now she is with our lord Jesus Christ walking with no infirmities. We love you and looking forward to seeing you soon.
