Dawn Lacey McCabe Howarth, 40

October 11, 2017

Dawn Lacey McCabe Howarth, 40, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 surrounded by family and friends at Lancaster General Hospital. She shared her life with her beloved husband, Jason A. Howarth. Born in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of Frank L. and Patricia Varner McCabe of Mount Joy. Dawn worked in sales for Murray-Securus, Forest Pharmaceuticals and The Hershey Company. She was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and Lebanon Valley College, where she was a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, serving as president. Dawn was active in the Junior League of Lancaster for twelve years and served as an officer and a board member in a variety of capacities.

Dawn enjoyed summers with her stepson Josh and trips to Deep Creek Lake with her family. Her favorite days were spent flying with Jason, vacationing in the Virgin Islands, winters in Cape Coral and generously supporting many local charities.

In 2013 Dawn was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Dawn faced this challenge with grace and determination. She inspired many with her bravery, courage and invincible spirit. Dawn was aided by a group of supportive friends, Dawn’s Divas. These eleven ladies walked 60 miles in Dawn’s honor at the Susan G. Komen 3-Day and raised $30,000. Dawn and Dawn’s Divas continued to work and support The American Cancer Society Legacy Ball and Help the Fight here in Lancaster. Jason and the McCabes wish to thank Dawn’s Divas and all who supported and loved Dawn.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her stepson, Joshua Howarth of Birmingham, AL, her twin brother David L. married to Kimberly Heckman McCabe of Landisville, and brother Jack H. married to Kristen Fay McCabe of Brooklyn, NY; her in-laws Bud and Belle Howarth of Mount Joy, and her nieces and nephew: Kaylee, Adalyn, Edward and Evelyn.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Dawn’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10 AM at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd., Lancaster, PA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Dawn’s memory to Help The Fight, 143 Oakridge Drive, Mountville, PA 17554 www.helpthefight.org.

Condolences to the Family

I’m so very sorry to hear this news.  She was such a wonderful person and will be so very missed. I’m so thankful that I got to share time with her at this year’s Relay for Life.  She was always giving of herself and that infectious smile always made me smile.  She always told me a great pair of shoes dresses up any outfit.  I just loved her sense of style and that warm, wonderful, kind heart.   My condolences to her husband, parents, family and friends.

Frank, Pat and family .  So deeply sorry to hear of Dawn’s passing.  I had a long conversation with her at Janet’s birthday party and her radiance lit up the room. She touched many people during her brief time here.  Heaven is now a brighter place to be.

On behalf of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) Board of Directors and staff, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the McCabe family for the passing of Dawn McCabe.

Dawn served on the PAFP Board of Directors for two years as the Corporate Representative, representing the corporate supporting members of the PAFP. It was always my impression that Dawn truly cared about family medicine and family physicians who provide medical care for their patients. As a board member, she represented the corporate members with dedication, distinction and integrity. Dawn was a great asset to board discussions related to improving family medicine in Pennsylvania.

Once again, our sincere thoughts and prayers are with your family.

The earthly world has lost an amazing lady.  I had the pleasure of meeting Dawn in high school and band.  My heart goes out to her husband, step son and family, though there will be tough days ahead and many unanswered questions, rest in the knowing that Dawn is out of pain and resting in our Savior’s arms.
