David L. Huxta, 67

April 29, 2021

David L. Huxta, 67, of Lancaster, PA entered into rest on April 29, 2021 with his wife and children by his side after a courageous four-year battle. He was the son of the late Joseph and Dolores (Rachkoski) Huxta and the beloved husband of Susie (Rosier) Huxta. Dave was the proudest Pop of his children; Laurie Huxta-Forbes (Mike), Ryan Huxta (Tanya) and Casey Huxta; Adored Pappy to 7 grandchildren; Nola, Grady, Lennon, Boden, Tovin, Noah, and Lucy. He is also survived by his siblings; Joe Huxta (Patsi), Mark Huxta (Carol), and Marianne Talbot (Jim) along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Rick Huxta (Lin).

From the Grand Ole Opry to Key West to Ireland, Dave was a talented bassist for over 50 years. He played with many great musicians including the bands Woolly Bear, The Susquehanna River Band, The Markers, The Bubbas, Susie’s Bar and Grill, Texas Jerry, and Tropical Soul. For the past 22 years he was most recognized for playing in the duo Copper Sky. He is leaving a legacy through his family, his friends and his music, by which he touched the lives of many. Dave was full of life with a radiant smile. He always lit up a room and greeted everyone as if you were family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, selflessness, overwhelming love and kindness. Dave valued every moment with his family who deeply loved him, and through faith in Jesus he had become a child of God and entered into His family.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Friends and family will be received from 2-4PM with a celebration service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The trustees of the University of Pennsylvania The Myeloma Research Fund Attention Dr. Vogl Abramson Cancer Center, 3400 Civic Center Blvd. Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Susie and family and Heather. Dave will be missed we were buddies years ago and became reacquainted 12-15 years ago when he stepped off of the stage at Hog’s Breath in Key West an asked me if I was Jim Strathmeyer. What an awesome happenstance? I had the opportunity to enjoy the music that Dave and his Bandmates created. I am no musician but music is a big part of my life.

Susie and Family.  You probably won’t remember me, but I graduated with your sister at MT and we used to hang out at Skyline pool.  I played drums and Dave and I were in a band together in high school.  Dave lived up the street from me in Grandview Heights.  I saw him about a year to a year and half ago at Home Depot.  He was standing in line in back of me.  Even though he a long beard I knew right away that it was Dave. Needless to say I was shocked and deeply saddened to see that Dave passed away.  Even though it has been many many years since we were in a band together I always regarded Dave as a caring and special person.  Glad to see he knew Jesus as his Savior.  My deepest sympathy for you and your family.  Doug Bowers

Dear Susie and Casey – Please accept my condolsences on the passing of Dave.  I was sad to read about his passing. Dave was always fun to talk to; very full of life.  Dave fought a good fight and is now resting in our heavenly Father’s arms.  May God provide you and your family with the peace He only may give.  May God’s promises of eternal life give you hope that only God can give.  May God’s presence in your life give you the strength to live on earth as we await the time when we get to join others in the heavenly host.  Nancy Marshall, Dan’s mother

Dave was always a joy to be around. Great sense of humor and full of life. I worked with Dave in one of his musical projects and as a fellow bassist, we always shared bass centric stories. He loved sharing new gear aquisitions with a little boy’s enthusasim. Even though I haven’t seen him in years there’s still a hole in my heart. RIP my friend. Condolences to Susie and his extended family.

What a Joy to have known and loved Dave.  Throughout my time in LancasterCo., with all our Band times, Dave was such fun to be with.  An extraordinary bass player, it was a pleasure to see him play.  He had a wicked smart sense of humor and approaching him, you could feel his warmth, caring Spirit, his Joy and kindness. Our loss is Heaven’s Gain.  Enjoy your Time in Heaven, Dave…we’ll meet again, for sure. <3

My late husband Herb Brooks worked with Dave at Dutch Wonderland. After his retirement, we enjoyed watching Copper Sky play at local establishments. Dave gave Herb words of encouragement during his battle with ALL leukemia. Sorry to her the same dreadful disease took Dave to soon too. Cherish those sweet memories of Dave to help you during your time of loss.

It has been several days since we learned of Dave’s passing and Laura and I still cannot find the words that accurately describe the depth of loss that we feel.
Nothing we can say here can ease the pain every Huxta is feeling except maybe to know that you are not alone in missing this most exceptional being and soul.
Deepest love and sympathy Dave, Susie and every Huxta,
