David L. Baker, 71

June 27, 2021

David L. Baker, 71, of Marietta, passed away on June 27, 2021 at Manor Care – Kingston Court in the loving arms of his youngest son, Darren. Born in Lewisberry, he was the son of the late Edward and Carrie Baker and the husband of the late Patricia A. (Hixon) Baker, who passed in 2013. They shared 42 years of marriage together.

David was a graduate of Camp Hill High School and went on to work as a Store Manager for Weis Markets and a DSD driver for Bickle’s and Utz before his retirement. After retiring, he worked part-time driving cars for the Manheim Auto Auction.

David was a loyal and dedicated family man. For 17 years, he selflessly cared for his beloved wife Patricia when her health began to decline. He did everything he could to support his family, especially his sons as they pursued sports and grew up.

An avid sports fan, David enjoyed rooting for all the Philadelphia sports teams, the Hershey Bears, and Penn State. In his earlier years, David enjoyed traveling across the country with his wife, making many cherished memories along the way.

David is survived by his sons, Chad Baker of Maytown and Darren Baker of Wrightsville. He will also be dearly missed by his furry companion, Boomer.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018 or Dementia Society of America, 188 N Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Dear Chad and Darren, Ric and I  were both shocked to hear of your Dad’s passing, and would like you both to know how sorry we are. You and your parents were wonderful nextdoor neighbors, and I have so many memories of you as a family. I hope you both are doing well, and wish you all the best.

Our heartfelt condolences to you both on the loss of your Dad.  We always regarded you as a special family.  We have fond memories of your mother being a wonderful teacher to some of our kids and got to know your Dad thru sporting events.  Chad, I’m sure you remember growing up with Leanne.  Every time we’d run into your Dad, he always talk about “his boys”.  He was very proud of you both.  With love and prayers at this sad time … Gail and John Kober.

I first met Dave when my son Andrew was playing soccer with Darren in 2001.  I was impressed by his positive attitude as he raised 2 teen age sons (not an easy take) and respectfully and lovingly cared for his wife with her medical challenges.  In the midst of all of that he was still forward looking and able to be a great Dad.  He taught the boys how to work as they helped him with his route.  It’s easy to be a nice person and a friend when things are well, but Dave was able to be that person to me when life had kicked him in the stomach.  I’m grateful for being able to know Dave during those years when are lives connected.  Darren and Chad learn from your parents and their sacrifice and continue to make them proud.
