Condolences to the Family

June 01, 2018

I am in shock I ran into Phil from Kendig Weis Pharmacy and he said Dave passed away,  I wish I would have known then, but dealing with grief myself in those years.  Losing all track of time.  I was a pharmacist asst, under Dave for about a year at Weis.  He was one of the best bosses I’ve ever had the pleasure of working under, there will never be another like him.  God Bless you Dave.

Dear Kathy,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Dave. I cannot think of any adequate words of comfort – there are none – so I will only say that Rick and I are thinking of you and praying for you and your family. I have met Jon through Rick and the residency program and I must say that you and Dave raised a wonderful son. I will be in touch at a later time,
Sincerely,
Rick and Mary Louise English

To the Ference Family.

Needless to say I was shocked by his early passing.

I can’t begin to express my deepest sympathy to you all.  I’m sure the shock of Dave’s loss, especially at this time of year, has got to be so difficult.  I remember working briefly with Dave at Weis Pharmacy, and also with Jon.  He always made you laugh about something and was a pleasure to get to know.  I also knew Kathleen from different times and can only imagine how hard this is to accept.  I will pray for strength for all of you and that God will comfort you all through this.  God Bless and be strong!

I started working with Dave when I was 15, nearly 30 years ago! He was such a great man and when I ran into him at Gance, I was thrilled!! I have never met a more amazing and caring person in my life. He taught me so many things and he always called and made sure I had all my medication and to check up on me after my back surgery! The world was blessed with such a generous and funny man, we will greatly miss him!! I send my condolences and love to the family!!

Dear Kathy,

This is Tom Santosusso.  You probably don’t remember me, but you taught my children at St. Leo’s School in the 70s.  It was there I met you and your then brand-new husband Dave.  I have always remembered both of you as so friendly and approachable, as well, if I may say so, as so charming.  I was so saddened to read of Dave’s sudden and untimely passing.  I hold you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Tom Santosusso

To Jon and Family,

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad was one of those individuals who left a great impression on me both personally and professionally. I look back on my summers interning at Weis and working along side your dad with fondness. It was inspirational to see him work with the patients and he knew everyone that walked in the door.  Your dad to put it simply was just a cool guy to be around and his joy filled laugh will resonate with me for a long time to come. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

Your friend,
Nate Dolk

Dear Ference Family,
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers today.  I worked with Dave at Royer Pharmacy and I consider him one of my  great mentors.  I had been considering pharmacy school but wasnt sure I would get accepted or be able to handle the academics since I had been out of college for almost a decade.  Dave was one of my biggest "cheerleaders" and believed in me.  Thanks to his positive words and encouragement, I am currently in my second year of pharmacy school.  I will always cherish his upbeat attitude, his awesome sense of humor, and the enormous love he had for his family and friends.   Knowing Dave has made me a better person and I know it will make me a better pharmacist.  As you celebrate Dave’s life today, I hope you find peace and comfort in the fond memories of your husband and father.  Farewell my friend, until we meet again.

With deepest sympathy,

Chad Weinhold

Kathy and Family — My heart goes out to all of you at this most difficult time — made harder still at Christmas.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To this day, I still remember Dave every time I see a "caddidle" — and now when I do, I will pray for all of you.

Dear Kathy and family- What a shock it was to everyone to hear about Dave’s passing- he was one of my favorite pharmacists to talk to- always upbeat and making me smile everytime I talked to him. My prayers are with you and your family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you.  I was shocked and saddened when I heard the news.  I was fortunate to have served on the board of LCPA with Dave.  He always had a kind word and a smile. He was an inspirational pharmacist.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you.  He will be missed!

Dear Ference Family… I had the great opportunity to work with Dave in my pre-pre pharmacy years as a high school student working as a pharmacy tech for Weis Markets. Even when I was an 18-year-old, Dave trusted me (frequently asking my manager if I could float to his Weis store in Bridgeport) and encouraged my interest in the pharmacy profession. I saw him over the years when I was home for the holidays and interviewing for the LCPA scholarships. One thing Dave always reminded me was to never take myself too seriously and to always make my patients smile (which he always did!). I’m excited to see that his legacy and memories will continue to live through the financial support of an LCPA Scholarship Fund. Dave will be missed, but never forgotten.
My condolences,
Christina Martin

We are so sorry for your loss.

My sympathies to your family.  I am not known to you, but I was a customer of Dave’s at the Weis Pharmacy for many years. His humor, his wit, made him such a pleasure to work with. When asked about why this med instead of that med, his professional knowledge was never doubted and very much appreciated. Such a solid, good person! Thank you for sharing him with us.

Sincerely,

Kathy, Jonathan, Mary and Maureen,

I spoke with my Mom this past weekend and was taken aback with the news of David’s passing.  Please let me first extend my heartfelt condolences to all of you.  In the brief time that I knew him, I always thought of David as a very kind, caring individual and I feel honored to have known both he and all of you.

After reading through the condolences, it is clear that he touched many lives throughout his life in a very positive way and that he will be missed by everyone that knew him.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you find comfort in each other and God during this difficult time.

Deepest Sympathies – Drew Kelley

Dear Kathy and family,
Just wanted to follow up and express my sincere condolances to you all. As I shared with you Kathy, I just found out of Dave’s passing today. While I haven’t seen you and Dave for a long time, I still feel a loss. Dave and I knew each other since first grade. I guess I can now admit that of the two of us he was the better wrestler. Always smarter as well. What great times we shared together. A piece of Shamokin and of our lives is gone but not forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

David was an inspiration to me for the past 31 years. First he served as my mentor and preceptor at Rea and Derick Bridgeport while I was a young pharmacy student.  I remember he went to the bank next door and spoke for me, establishing a credit card, which I still have to this day. He attended my wedding on his birthday, 7/31/82.  Life came full circle as he joined the Royer Pharmacy team and we worked together as pharmacists.  Most recently, he visited us at Royers in Ephrata to share his Dad-isms, which were officially published on the Royer intra-store web.  We loved him at the Ephrata store, nicknaming him June Bug, which was an extrapolation of his middle name initial "J." Dave gave of himself completely, put others ahead of himself, and was a true servant of the Lord. His insight and wisdom are priceless gifts he shared as he touched so many lives.  My deepest sympathy to Kathy and all of the family.  In this sad time, may you feel comfort in knowing how many of us loved, cherished and respected Dave for his humor, insight and guidance.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Revak

Dear Ference Family,
My sympathies on the passing of David.  I am not known to you, but felt compelled to write as I have known of David’s athletic accomplishments at Lourdes.   The Lourdes family lost a legend, role model and mentor in his passing.  His life story is that of a kind and giving man who accomplished much, and I can see that such qualities will live on in his family.  I have 4 children at Lourdes and have shared Dave’s story with them, he, and you, will be in their prayers today, and I will use his lifetale to as another example of a life well-lived.
May you find comfort in this difficult time,
Amy Polites Feese

The world has lost the best of the best. I worked with David at Rea and Derick many years ago. I most recently saw him at Royers in Leola. David always had a smile and a story to tell. He was so proud of his children and family. The last time I saw him he showed me a picture of his new grandchild(with a tear in his eye). Kathy and family you have my prayers and heartfelt thoughts at this time. Keep your many memories close to your hearts. He will live on in our hearts forever.

To the Ference Family…
I am so sorry for your loss.  I met Dave over 10 years ago.  I worked with him in the Pharmacy at Weis.  He was a great person.  Always happy and full of life not to mention pretty funny.  He always talked about his family 🙂  I remember hearing a lot about Mary and her basketball skills 🙂 I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers 🙂

Kathy, Jonathan, Mary and Maureen,
I am so saddened to learn about my roommate, best man and best friend ever. So many memories and so many tears of laughter for all of us. I have never had a better friend than Dave. Even though we have been separated by many miles over the years my heart and soul have always had a heavy Ference presence! Dave taught me so much. We were a good match. All of us.

Love and prayers always, Jim Brown, Gilbert, AZ

Kathy, Jonathan, Mary and Maureen,
Swedish Motors has lost a dear friend in the passing of your husband and father. A void will be felt in the years to come without our visits from Dave and his awesome Volvo’s.  We are so sorry we can not be there for your family on Friday because we are out of town, but you are in our hearts and prayers. It is not the date you were born or the date you died that really matters.  It’s "the dash" between those years and what you do with it to make a difference with your life.  Since high school buddies until now, he made a tremendous difference in other’s lives and influenced so many and he will sadly missed by everyone that was touched by him in their life.

Rich and Carol Kushner and family and everyone in the Swedish Motors family

Dear Kathy,
I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family.    Although there are no words I can say to ease your pain, know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.  May many fond memories give you peace and comfort at this difficult time.
Rita Valence-Jeremiah
