David H. Hain, Jr., 98

David H. Hain, Jr., 98, of Manheim, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Sinking Springs, Berks County, he was the son of the late David H. and Minerva (Bingaman) Hain. David was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Heckler) Hain and together they celebrated 27 years of marriage at the time of her passing this past September.

A member of the US Navy, David honorably served his country through the duration of WWII as a submariner. He worked as a foreman for Kerr Glass Manufacturing, from where he retired after 43 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Columbia Fish & Game Association. For several years, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lancaster.

David is survived by his daughter, Carlene Hain of Lancaster, and his son, Donald Hain and his wife Rose of Manheim. Also surviving are his step-children, Theresa Kane and her husband Stephen of Baer, DE, Stephen Swartz and his wife Gwyneth of Lancaster, and Mark Swartz and his wife Sue of Millersville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was predeceased by his son, Dennis M. Hain.

A viewing will take place Thursday, July 12th from 10:30-11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Rev. Brian Olkowski as Celebrant. Interment in St. Joe New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s memory may be made to a veteran’s organization of one’s choosing.
