Cynthia E. Handel, 58

Cynthia E. Handel, 58, of Willow St, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at LRMC after a lengthy illness. Born in Stuttgart, Germany she is the daughter of Thomas and Mildred (Krahnke) Thomas. She was married to Gerald R. “Jerry” Handel for over 32 years.

She graduated in 1974 from the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children as valedictorian. She began working as a volunteer in 1982 with the Better Business Bureau and advanced to the position of mediation director working there for over 20 years. She also enjoyed her computer work, the internet, and emailing with blind people. Cindy was a member of the PA affiliate National Federation of the Blind where she was the former treasurer.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting blankets and scarfs, going to dinner theatres and loved going on cruises with her husband.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by a sister, Susan D. Anderson, wife of Roy, of Harrison City, PA, and a brother, Thomas P. Thomas, husband of Nancy, of Bear, DE. Also surviving are 3 loving nieces and 2 nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St, Millersville, PA 17551. A viewing will be held from 12-2PM at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Cindy’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr, Lancaster, PA 17603.
