Cullen Neil Brewer, 28

August 09, 2019

On the morning of August 9th, 2019, Cullen Neil Brewer passed away in his home. Cullen is the son of Tana and Brian Brewer. He is survived by his parents and two siblings, Seth Brewer and Jordan Brewer Steege. He is also survived by his grandmother, Doris Detwiler, and two aunts, Terri Detwiler Williams and Lynn Brewer Bowlus. He had numerous cousins. Cullen was preceded in death by his grandparents, A. Glen and Leona Brewer, and Dawson Detwiler. Cullen was born and raised in Lancaster, PA. He was 28 years old and currently worked as a security guard.

We are heartsick over the loss of a vibrant young man. He was an exuberant child to say the least. He once launched himself through a screen door to get to the mail first. As an adult, he always won every argument and had a creative and sometimes wicked sense of humor. No one made us laugh more than Cullen. He was an avid sports fan. He loved Philadelphia sports, but he loved Lebron James the most. He argued about sports to the bitter end and of course he was always right. Cullen was a huge dog lover. He cherished our dog, Moses. He always had big hugs for him, even against the dog’s will, but he just loved him so much.

Cullen was a loving soul. He had his share of challenges, but he always worked hard to overcome them and stayed close to family. He was never belligerent or avoidant when it came to the times in life when he needed help. He continued to get up and try again. He was a support and role model for friends who were struggling. He intended to go back to school and get a job in the recovery field. He would have been excellent.

We love you Cullen. Your absence leaves an unimaginable hole in our lives, but we will carry your light and keep it alive with stories of your unique and beautiful character.

A Life Celebration Picnic for Cullen will be held on Saturday Afternoon, August 31st, 2019 from 1-4 PM at Pavilion #11 in Lancaster County Central Park, 733 Williamson Road, Lancaster, PA 17602. Friends and Family are invited to come, relax and have a chance to share their memories of Cullen. Everyone is encouraged to wear their favorite t-shirt as a fun gesture to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may choose to make donations to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), https://www.nami.org/.

Condolences to the Family

September 28, 2019

Please accept my sincere condolences on the tragic loss of your child! I did not really know your son Cullen having only met him one time. But I wanted you to know the circumstances under which we met. I help with the Lititz Public Library book sale and I usually get volunteers from Good Day recovery houses to help on our last day of the sale with cleanup of all the leftover books. Your son was one of those volunteers recently.  My daughter, Meg, who is the intake person for Good Day, arranged for four guys to come And help the rest of the volunteers.  Most of us are on the older side, so having strong young men to help us lifting heavy boxes is a great help. Your son did so willingly and pleasantly. He was kind and helpful to all of the other volunteers and also to the patrons who needed help carrying books out to their cars. I enjoyed talking to him during the event and when taking the guys back to their houses.
I just want you to know that Cullen left me with a very positive impression, and I was heartbroken to hear of his passing. Additionally, as a parent,  I share your sense of loss.

My prayers for Cullen’s family. I didn’t know Cullen but I know his Dad. It sure sounds to me like, in many ways, he was a chip off of the old block Brian. Losing one of your children is very difficult for us to understand. I’ve lost one. As you mourn the loss of his physical life here, celebrate his new life with God. Continue to pray and reach out to the Lord and to your friends for help. Blessings for all of you.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Your son was a good guy, loved playing ball with him. It’s such a shame, he was doing so good for the year or so I knew him. He definitely had a positive impact on my life in the short time he spent in levittown. Sponsoring him was an honor, I wish I could have done more… I’ve missed him since he went back home but at least we still talked. I’m going to miss him. I don’t know where I’m going to get my Netflix recommendations now. He always talked about his family especially his younger brother. He was extremely proud of him and his school and basketball achievements. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve never met any of you guys, but Cullen spoke very highly of all of you. He definitely loved you guys and felt loved in return.
