Condolences to the Family

I’m kind of late with this. When my parents sent me the obit I meant to write something, but then it kind of slipped my mind until I came across the obit again now.
Charlie was without a doubt the best teacher I ever had. His knowledge and presentation of the material was animated and almost exciting, and on top of that his classroom management skills were second to none. I had him for geometry, algebra 2 and what would now be called pre-calc from 1961 through 1964 which was the year I graduated from Conestoga Valley.
After graduation I would often meet him, usually with my brother and another person for some tennis doubles. He didn’t have the greatest tennis skills, but he was very competitive. After he moved on to Millersville State College I often though how much of a shame it was that later classes of CV students missed him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. You’ll definitely be missed, Charlie

I am so sorry to read about your loss. Mr Van Gorden was my math teacher at Conestoga Valley High in 1959 & 1960. I also remember seeing him at the grocery store during summer school vacations.

My condolences to the entire VanGordon family. Mr. Van Gordon was truly an excellent teacher and it showed through his commitment. I truly loved his classes and he was kind enough to tutor me in college calculus for an afternoon because my college prof simply did not have the skill to teach effectively. My mother, Sara Erb, was a colleague on the CV staff and I know she was an admirer as well. With sincere sympathy, James Erb, CV class of 1965.

Mr. Van Gorden was my math ( algebra, geometry, trig) teacher for several years in the mid-sixties.  I remember him fondly as a great teacher – demanding & supportive,  fair and personable.  I’ll never forget the time the whole class bombed on a test. As an A student, I was devastated until he told us that he’s going to re-teach the material – assuming that he had done a poor job of presenting it to us.  I’ve remembered that model of humble teaching all thru my 40 years of teaching.
Condolences to all his friends & family

Kathy, We offer our condolences to you and the children. Although we where not around each other often, we still were arware that we were family. As we grow older and somewhat more satisified with life we think of the others and the occurances that we shared with the visits at Jim’s and Jan’s or at the holidays we may have shared.
