Charles I. Daubert
Charles I. Daubert, Jr, of 3117 Briarwood Blvd., died March 10, 2006 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center.
He was the husband of Dorothy L. Daubert. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June 5th. They were married at the Catholic Chapel at West Point and had two children. They were residents of Lancaster since 1966.
Born in Llewellyn, Schuylkill County, he was the eldest son of the late Charles and Emma Klinger Daubert of Shillington, PA.
Charles graduated from Hegins Township. High School in 1940. After attending two semesters at Pennsylvania State College, he entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point NY and graduated in June of 1945. During his 23 years in the military, he piloted over 20 different military aircraft and attained the top rating of Command Pilot. While serving in occupied Germany after WWII, he completed 87 missions into Berlin during the famed Berlin Airlift. In 1955, while flying the C-124 Globemaster, he completed 15 flights into the Distance Early Warning ice covered sites on the Arctic Circle in northern Canada. Most of his military career was in command assignments and as a Research and Development engineer.
He completed overseas tours of duty in Germany and Newfoundland, with temporary duty tours in the Philippines, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from the USAF while assigned to the Air Staff at the Pentagon in Washington DC in October 1965. During his service years, he completed study at the USAF Institute of Technology in aeronautical and electronic engineering at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH; one year Training with Industry at North American Aviation in Los Angeles, CA; and the Armed Forces Industrial College in Washington DC.
In December 1984, he retired from ITT Grinnell. During his 19 years with Grinnell at the Columbia, PA plant, he was assigned duties of Operations Analyst, Chief Industrial Engineer and Administrative Assistant to four General Managers and Vice Presidents.
He was a member of the Retired Officers’ Assn, the Assn of Graduate of the US Military Academy, the Centerville Area Chapter AARP, the Air Force Assn., the American Legion Post 945 of Lititz PA, and the VFW Post 8757 of Mountville PA.
Surviving besides his wife, Dorothy, are his son, Charles III of Lancaster; a daughter Patricia married to John Dalton of East Petersburg, PA; 3 grandchildren; a brother, Robert D. of Shillington, PA; a brother Richard L. of West Reading PA; a sister June married to Max Schlegel of Valley View PA and a sister Mary married to Edmund Huntzinger of Shillington,PA.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 10-11AM from the Charles Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with a memorial service to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Assn., 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
