Charles D. White, 88
Charles D. White, 88, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Mount Gilead, OH, he was the son of the late Arthur R. and Mary Ellen (Ruhl) White.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean (Buell) White in 2007.
He served his country in the US Army and was a Veteran of World War II.
Charles was a member of the American Legion Post #0466, VFW Posts 1446 (Red Lion), 2435 (Columbia) and 5865 (York), and Red Cross Disaster Team. Charles was an EMT for over 33 years, taught AARP defensive driving course and was a member of the Goodwill Fire Company in York. He especially enjoyed calling bingo and bowling on the Wii Team at St. John’s retirement community in Columbia, PA.
Charles attended Aldersgate Methodist Church in York.
Charles is survived by his daughters: Susan Clemson, wife of Buck of Pasadena, MD, Carol Edson, wife of Sean, of Bloomington, IL, Nancy Cheris, wife of Jon C. of Wellsville, PA. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph W. White, husband of Ola of Wenatchee, WA, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2 PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551 with Rev. Jonathan Bausman officiating. A viewing will be held on Friday between 1-2 PM at Snyder’s. Military honors rendered by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park, Ontario, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4624, Lancaster, PA 17604-4624.
