Carolyn A. (Pratt) Spicknell, 71

May 31, 2020

“May it be said of me that I have loved and followed the Lord, and He has never let me down.”

Carolyn A. Spicknell, 71, of Manheim passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Regis and Mildred (Beamer) Pratt. She was the wife of Terry J. Spicknell.

Carolyn was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She recently retired from working at Visiting Angels as a personal senior care provider.

A member of LCBC, Carolyn had a close relationship with her faith and was active in bible study groups. A favorite bible verse of hers was Psalms 48:14. Carolyn loved to spend time at home with her family and with her black Labrador, Mila. She also enjoyed traveling, riding bikes with her husband, and reading books.

Carolyn was the sweetest, kindest person and touched many lives. As a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, she was incredibly generous, caring, encouraging, and selfless. She was a sounding board and spiritual compass for many of her friends. They commented that she was one of the brightest lights that God gave us, Christ’s love radiated from her, and her actions displayed her servant’s heart and God’s truth. She was the most vibrant woman to meet and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband Terry, Carolyn is survived by her son, Keith D. Spicknell, husband of Laura Pannell of Mountville, and her sister, Bonnie Elosser, wife of Doug of Wise, VA.

A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to World Vision, P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063 or LCBC, 2392 Mount Joy Rd, Manheim, PA 17545.

Terry and Family,
She has left such a huge hole in your hearts as she has for so many in her life. What a Godly woman she was. We share in your human sorrow and we rejoice in your Godly joy.

I always appreciated how sweet Carolyn (aka Mrs. Spicknell) was to us. I forget why, but at some point she made up a laminated graphic of a cartoon snake for me, with the caption “IN CASE OF FIRE PLEASE SAVE MY SNAKE”.  It has been posted at the entrance of my reptile room for at least 10 or 15 years. I will think of her sweet smile and kindness every time I look at it. It’s just one little reminder of all the caring things she did for everyone around her.

Terry and family,
My truest regret about Carolyn is that I did not get to know her long enough.  I believe for probably about 2 years or so.  I certainly love Carolyn.  Carolyn certainly knew how to laugh and that is one of the things that I most love in life.  She made me laugh.  Remember the time she led our small group.  I couldn’t believe what a take charge person she was.  I will truely miss her laugh and smile.  She is one of the many wonderful people that we have the pleasure of getting to know and I will never forget from LCBC.  We love you Terry and are here for you to lean on.  Jerry and I are right around the corner and are here for you anytime. You will always be part of our small group.  Jerry and Bonnie

This is a wonderful tribute to Carolyn. Her life was exactly that, a display of gods splendor. We will never forget her vibrant spirit, often expressed in words tumbling out of her heart faster than her mouth could speak.  What an example of a life well lived. We can see her laughing and carrying on with our son Micah in the presence of Jesus.

Carolyn lived as a true servant and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.  She had a vibrant love for God and amazing prayer life.  All who knew and loved her can attest to her sweet spirit and kind, loving, caring heart. As her friend, I grieve her loss, even as I realize that she is reaping the benefits of eternal life in heaven with her Savior and Lord. I look forward to the family reunion when it’s my turn to go home to heaven.  Goodbye for now sweet Carolyn.  I miss you!
