Carl F. Banks, Jr., 87

Carl F. Banks, Jr., 87, of Strasburg and formerly of Montgomery County, MD, died unexpectedly at Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was born in Chester County, PA to the late Carl Frederick Banks, Sr. and Isabelle (Johnson) Banks. Carl shared 40 years of marriage with his wife Ann B. (Bonham) Banks.
He graduated from the Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Carl worked on pneumatic systems on battleships for the Department of the Navy in Crystal City, VA, and then did consulting work after retiring from Civil Service.
Carl was known as being one of the nicest and most intelligent men you would ever meet. He enjoyed professional baseball, especially the Washington Nationals, Big Band Music, bowling, photography and darkroom photo developing of his family, trains and nature. A great train lover, Carl previously volunteered at the Silver Spring B&O Railroad Station and served as secretary for the Historic Train Society in Silver Spring, MD. More recently, Carl volunteered at the Strasburg Railroad and the Railroad Museum of PA in Strasburg, PA.
He had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, MD, where he wrote articles for the newsletter and bulletins. Carl currently belonged to Wesley United Methodist Church in Strasburg.
In addition to his wife Ann, Carl is survived by his daughters Julie Banks of Atlanta, GA, Vicky, wife of Richard Lam of Manassas, VA and Carol Ann, wife of Scott Wickett of Charles Town, WV; stepdaughter Patricia, wife of George Livermore of Hilton Head, SC; 13 grandchildren: Andrew, Scott and Jessica Lam, Amanda Hairston (Nick), Heather Hawkins (Steve), Annie Wickett, Jennifer and Daniel Herring, Kyle and Lucy Silver, Roy Perry, Tommy Perry, Jr. and Melissa Perry; and 5 great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Savannah Carlson, John Shirley and Katherine and Preslee Perry. Carl was preceded in death by his stepson Thomas W. Perry in 2017 and by Thomas’s wife Linda (Reinhardt) in 2005
A viewing will take place from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by the funeral at 12 PM with Rev. David R. Alderson officiating, on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Wesley U.M. Church, 40 W. Main St., Strasburg, PA 17579. Interment will take place at 1 PM on Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 127 Britner Ave., Williamsport, MD 21795. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of The Railroad Museum of PA, P.O. Box 125, Strasburg, PA 17579.

Dad, You were the best father that anyone could have ever asked for! I will always remember all the fun times that we had together and cherish all of the memories we shared FOREVER!!!
