Barry L. Diem, 69

April 26, 2018

Barry L. Diem, 69, of Manheim Twp., passed away at Hamilton Arms on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He was born in Lancaster to the late Adam K, and Gladys (Diller) Diem. Barry was the loving husband of Irina (Potapenko) Diem.
He graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School and served in the US Army in Vietnam as a Specialist 4th Class. Barry heroically participated in over 75 combat assault missions and was awarded 3 Bronze Service Stars and 2 Air Medals. It was through his service that he was engrained with a sense of duty that he carried throughout his adult life. Barry worked hard to provide for his family and had been a carpenter for Wickersham Construction and then Warfel Construction.
Barry dearly loved his grandkids, Hannah, Madelyn and Tyler. Family and friends knew Barry as a great cook, and he was also an avid fan of Penn State football, the Phillies and the Eagles. Barry enjoyed traveling, especially a relaxing Caribbean cruise.
In addition to his wife Irina, Barry is survived by his son Jeremy Diem, husband of Kathryn (Muller) and their children Hannah, Madelyn and Tyler Diem of West Chester; stepdaughter Lily Dagle of New York and his sister Beverly, wife of Robert Fasig of Pottstown.
Private interment will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

Barry was a real sweetheart and a good friend to my husband ,Ed Murray. He always had a piece of chocolate for me when I saw him at the legion. I was at a doctor appointment at the health campus 2 weeks ago, Barry was there, He ask Me how I was doing….. Selflessness of the  fact  of what HE himself was going through. I planted a kiss on his cheek, so glad I HAD   the opportunity to tell him that Ed and I loved him. What a wonderful man, Thank you for your duty to your Country. No one can replace Barry, but we sure do need more men in the world like him. Love you , Barry ❤️ Our sincere condolences to Irina, Jeremy &  Family. Ed & Lori Murray

I was very saddened to see of Barry’s passing. My sincere condolence to his family. I got to know Barry when I was working on the house across the street from his home. I always enjoyed conversations with him, and I truly appreciated him befriending my son Derek when he moved into the house.
Sincerely,

It saddens me to hear of Barry’s passing.  I became friends with him through the Am. Legion. He was a sweetheart.  I remember when he told me he was getting married. He was so excited and happy.  I’m glad he found love and happiness in his new wife.  Go fly high to that mountain Barry, son your work on earth is done.  ~Penny
