Arthur K. Hammel, 80
Arthur K. Hammel, 80, formerly of 7 Ferree Circle, Lancaster, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, November 22nd, in York.
He was the husband of Florence M. Poole Hammel of Lancaster, with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past June 17th. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur T. and Ruth Degler Hammel.
Arthur had owned and operated several local grocery businesses in Lancaster for many years until his retirement in 1990. He had also worked as a research chemist for the RCA Corporation for 12 years.
A 1949 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, he had earned degrees in both chemistry and mathematics.
Arthur was a World War II veteran of the US Navy, serving as an Electronic Technicians Mate 3rd Class.
He enjoyed traveling and attending the opera in Washington DC and New York.
In addition to his wife, Arthur is survived by a son: Kenneth married to Barbara Hammel of Lancaster; 2 daughters: Joanne Hammel of Bristol NH and Lynn Hammel of Lititz; 6 grandchildren: Nathan, Jane, Brian,. Jennifer, Daniel, and Jennifer; and 3 great grandchildren: Alexis, Aylee, and Lily. He is also survived by 2 sisters, both of Lancaster: Esther married to Glenn Guiles, and Ruth Homsher.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 15, 2007 from 130-2PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the memorial service to follow at 2PM with the Rev. David Allen officiating.
