Archer C. “Bud” Tunis, Jr., 90
Archer C. “Bud” Tunis, Jr., 90, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at ManorCare Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, Bud was the son of the late Archer C. and Ethel (Farlowe) Tunis. He was married to P. Myralene (Liddy) Tunis on July 22, 1950.
Bud was a 1950 graduate of Indiana Tech, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity. He also attended Drexel University for two years.
Bud was a Sargeant of the US Air Force during World War II.
Bud was employed by RCA as an engineer in the Government Division, department of super power tubes. He was part of the team at RCA that developed the color television picture tube, and also held several registered patents.
Bud was a member of the Harrisburg Consistory of the Free and Accepted Masons, Zembo Temple, Lancaster County Shrine Club, Lancaster, Lancaster Lodge # 43 F. & A.M., The Train Collectors Association, AARP, and Retirees of RCA. He loved golfing, fishing, animals, trips to the Delaware shore, and reading about Civil War history.
Mr. Tunis was awarded the Certificate of Honor from the City and County of Lancaster for his service and duty to the county.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Chad C. Tunis, Rehobeth Beach, DE, Frank L. Tunis, husband of Suzanne L., of Lancaster, and Anne T. , wife of Alan H. Sutter, of Lancaster, five grandchildren, Amy, Scott, Andrew, Paul, and Sarah, and two great-grandchildren, Madison, and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Tunis Summy.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 11 AM at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Timothy A. Mentzer officiating. A calling time will be held from 10 until 11 AM. Interment will be Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11:30 AM in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laurel, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bud’s memory to Humane League of Lancaster, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
