Antonio “Tony” Macrina, 87

Antonio “Tony” Macrina, 87, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Gasperina Cantanzaro, Italy, he was the husband of Sylvia (Fiorentino) Macrina of Lancaster, to whom he was married for 61 years on December 2, 2012.  He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Rosa (Paparo) Macrina.

Tony retired from Armstrong World Industries in 1988 after 32 years of service.

He was a past member of the Italian-American Club of Lancaster, and a past member of the Italian Society Santo Innocenzo.  He was an Italian Army veteran.

A member of St. Anne Catholic Church, he had a passion for life that never ceased and was tough as nails and active until the end.  He loved his garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty with family, friends, and even strangers.

Though he was a proud American citizen, Tony loved Italy, returning there six times.

He was a strong benefactor of the Dominican Monastery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Vincent D. Macrina of Conshohocken; two daughters: Rosanne Macrina of Lancaster and Teresa M. Dunn and her husband David J. of Lancaster; two grandchildren:  Kelly Rose Donahue of West Chester and Ryan E. Dunn of Bowling Green, OH; two brothers:  Domenico Macrina and Father Nicola Macrina, both of Italy; four sisters:  Maria, Teresa, and Rosa Macrina, all of Italy, and Emanuela Barbuto of Toronto, Canada.  He was preceded in death by an infant son, Vincent Dominic Macrina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service at the church. Please omit flowers.  Memorial contributions in Tony’s memory may be made to Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA  17601. Rosanne,

Mike and I are so sad to hear of your fathers passing. My mother died last February and it is difficult everyday. I always looked for your dad working in his gardens. He seemed so happy working outside. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Rosanne – We are thinking of you at this difficult time. You were a great source of comfort to me during mine. Your Dad was very special – I could tell by the way you looked whenever you talked about him. May God’s love and grace shine upon you and your family.

Hugs
Melinda and Eric

My sincere condolences to the Macrina family. I’ve been friends with Mr. Macrina’s son Vince for many years. He often talked about his father and was very proud of him. The pain of losing a loved one is always difficult. However, he will always be in your heart and provide you with wonderful memories and strength.
Sincerely,
Rees Gherman

Rosanne, Teresa and Vince,

It was with great sadness when I heard of your father’s passing.  I met your dad for the first time at the time of my wedding and he was such a pleasure.  He was so very friendly and always smiling.  I met him again at the time of our father-in-law’s funeral.  Although it was such a terrible time for us all he was so helpful and supportive to my mother-in-law and we were so happy he was able to come to Toronto to be with us together with Aunt Sylvia.  Their prescence was so greatly welcomed and so reassuring to us. As our mother has not been in the best of health, we are unable to come to Lancaster although you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

I met your dad again in Lancaster.  We were able to spend a little time with your dad in his home where he so proudly showed Enzo and I around and especially his garden which he cared for so lovingly.  I enjoyed our visit so very much.  Your dad will be missed!

Love,
Diana Barbuto

To Vince & Family,

We at Inter-County Agency are very sorry to hear of your dad’s passing.  It sounds like he had a full and interesting life.  May God bless you and your family and provide comfort in this time of healing.

Dear Teresa and family

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.  A husband and father’s love is held in our hearts forever. While time decreases the hurt and the ache, it never erases the memories that play out in our minds. Husbands, father’s and grandfather’s hold a special place in the lives  of their families.  Keep the memories and stories alive by sharing with each other now and in the weeks, months and years ahead.

Respectfully,
Linda M. Hershey

I am so sorry to hear about Tony’s passing. To this day whenever I smell a pipe I think of him sitting on the porch on Lime Street after dinner. Thoughts and prayers to Sylvia, Roseanne, Theresa and Vince.
