Anthony J. Barilar, 78
Anthony J. Barilar, 78, of 1012 Olympia St., Lititz, PA, passed unto The Lord on Tuesday at Homestead Village.
He was the husband of Doris L. Lape Barilar, with whom he was married for 51 years this past April. Born in Adrian, PA, he was the son of the late John B. and Margaret Wardrip Barilar.
Anthony had worked as a systems manager for North American Phillips for 12 years, retiring in 1992. Previous to this, he had worked for GTE in Williamsport and various locations throughout New York.
A World War II veteran of the US Army Air Corps, he served as a sergeant, working in intelligence at the Pentagon. After his discharge, he served in the US Air Force Reserves from 1947 to 1951.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lititz, and formerly a very active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Anthony graduated with a BS in Economics and also his Masters’ Degree. While at Pittsburgh, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
While living in Williamsport, he was a member of the Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: John A. married to Angela Barilar of Chestertown, MD, and Bruce A. married to Karen Barilar of Lititz; 1 daughter, Aline L. DeBeky of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 3 grandchildren: Austin, Jacqueline, and Larissa Barilar; 2 sisters: Lillias Boose of Cary, NC, and Marie Craig of Lansing, MI, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Barilar.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services on Friday, March 3rd at 11AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 West Orange St., Lititz, PA. Friends will be received by his family following the memorial services. His family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125, or to a charity of one’s choice.
