Anna E. Vera, 91, passed away on September 27, 2017, at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbia, PA under Hospice & Community Care. Anna resided at the St. John’s Herr Estate, Columbia, PA, from July 2009 to January 2017 and previously lived on Harvard Avenue, Lancaster, PA, for 35 years and on High Street, Lancaster, PA. Anna was the former wife of the late Clifford P. Vera.
Born in Lancaster, PA, on March 8, 1926, Anna was the daughter of the late Dorothea Kaiser Rathsam and Carl Rathsam. Anna was employed at RCA, Lancaster, PA, as electronic tester, from 1950 until 1987, and worked one additional year at the same facility for Burle Industries.
In her younger years, Anna liked to knit, crochet, and shop for bargains, particularly for knick-knacks that she would display throughout her house. While at the St. John’s Herr Estate, Anna looked forward to playing bingo; and enjoyed coloring, cutting out her master pieces and plastering them on the walls of her room. She was always thrilled to go out to lunch, mainly to Hinkle’s Pharmacy in Columbia with her niece.
She is survived by Charles Rathsam, her brother and his wife, Jean Greiner Rathsam of Lancaster, PA; Wilbert Manley, her brother-in-law of York, PA; Patricia Frey Rathsam, her sister-in-law of Elizabethtown, PA; and fourteen nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by Dorothy Rathsam Manley, her sister, Joseph Rathsam, her brother, and a niece.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM, Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church, 558 West Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603. The family will receive guests from 10 to 11AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA.
