Ann M. Lowell, 80

November 16, 2018

Ann M. Lowell, 80, of Harrisburg, died at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, November 16, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital. Ann was the daughter of the late Gerald and Marie Ransing Lowell. She is survived by her sister, Geraldine, and her brother, Bernard, both of Lancaster, and her forever friend, Rosalie Giandalia, of Harrisburg. She is also survived by a nephew, Luke Morgan, and nieces, Monica Hickey and Maria Shumar, all of Maryland.

Ann was a 1956 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and a 1960 graduate of Immaculata University with a B.A. in English Literature.

Ann dedicated her life to public service. She began working for the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee immediately after graduating from the University. Ann went on to work for then Auditor General Robert P. Casey in the Office of Legislative Affairs and then worked for newly elected Governor Casey in the Department of Revenue as the Associate Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. Ann spent several years in Revenue before being selected to work for Auditor General Robert P. Casey, Jr. as his Senior Legislative Liaison. When Casey won the statewide election for Pennsylvania State Treasurer, he took Ann with him to serve in his office of Legislative Affairs. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2007.

Ann was an active and loyal Democrat – she believed public service allowed her to make a difference in people’s lives, and she was a source of knowledge among Democrats in Pennsylvania politics.

The beach, especially Sea Isle City, was always a favorite for Ann and her family and friends. Another thing she loved was the theatre. She often went to New York City to see the latest plays and musicals. Ann also worked at and supported the Harrisburg Community Theatre.

Ann’s friends and family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Landis Homes; Drs. Dale Hersh and Amy Jhaveri; the nurses of LGH’s ER; nurses Brie, Izzy, and Felecia in LGH’s Intermediate ICU; and nurses Belinda, Naji, and Sarah for the extraordinary comfort and care they extended to Rosie and Ann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, November 26, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family.

I missed Anne’s death notice. She was a wonderful woman who was very kind to me throughout my career in state government. I always looked forward to seeing her and will miss her dearly. My condolences to her family.

I consider myself very fortunate to have had Ann as a friend. A woman of class and integrity. Always upbeat regardless of the circumstances. She was more than a friend, Ann was a role model and inspiration to those that came in contact with her.
I have very fond memories of working on campaigns with her and especially the Annual St. Patrick Day dinners she would host with “The Gang” that she would affectionally refer to us that assisted her on Casey campaigns.
God Bless you Ann Lowell.
