Andrew N. Karpouzis, 88

Andrew N. Karpouzis, 88, of Lancaster died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Domnitsa (Papademetriou) and Nicholas A. Karpouzis.  He was the husband of the late Georgia Koutsoutis Karpouzis who passed away on September 4, 1993.

Andrew was first employed at RCA, and then, he was co-owner at the Fulton Restaurant in Lancaster with his brother, Captain Gus, and his uncle. From 1958-1989, he was the owner of Speeds #2 Steak Shop on East King Street. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping his brother at Captain Gus’ Steak Shop.

Andy was affectionately known as “The Rock,” because of his body building and training as a youth. He was always an avid sports fan, and he especially loved the Philadelphia teams. Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and he loved his church, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Philoptochos and the Pan Coan Society.

Andy was a veteran of World War II and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force where he was stationed in Japan.

Andrew is survived by one son: Nicholas A. Karpouzis of Lancaster; one granddaughter: Zoe Karpouzis of Millersville.  He will be lovingly missed by two sisters: Barbara K. Valavanes, Nena K. Valavanes; and one brother: Captain Gus Karpouzis all of Lancaster.  He will be greatly missed by his one nephew: Nick G. Karpouzis, four nieces: Nancy Val Kambouroglos, Dore Photis, Andrea Phillips, Phyllis Rothweiler; and twelve grand-nephews and grand-nieces.  He is also survived by his four Godchildren: Eleni Geishauser, Daniel Karpouzis, Andrew Kusuplos, and Frances Nicholaou.

A special thank you must be given to Dr. Spencer Phillips for his devotion and care of Theo Andy.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 10:30am on Friday September 16, 2011 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster 17603 with Rev. Alex Goussetis officiating.  A viewing will be held at the Church on Thursday, September 15 from 7pm-9pm with a Trisagion Service at 8pm and again on Friday morning at 10am-10:30am at the Church.  Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Andrew’s memory to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.  To send the family an online condolence or for more information please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. I’m rewriting one years later because I didn’t realize that I’d miss you so much. You visit me in my dreams sometimes and I’m forever grateful to see you there. I’m 17 now. I miss you. Oh goodness how I miss you. I wish I could see your smile again. Or the twinkle in your eye. You were MY person. I love you so much. And no I haven’t forgotten you. You’re too good to be forgotten. My words will never amount to how much I miss you. I know you found a new friend up there. Probably shocked but I hope she’s keeping you company and happy. Tell Syd I miss her. I can’t wait to see you guys again. Thank you for being my guardian angel. You both will forever have my heart. ♥️

I will miss my popou forever he helped me get through everything.  I sat on his lap he fed me and loved me more then anything on the world he always said to my dad my biggest fear is that I will die and Zoe (me) will forget me.  I will never forget you buying me ice cream making me laugh playing together.  But most of all, you loving me and the very last words you said to me were “never forget me, I will always love and miss you.”   Please come back I need you more then anything.  Just know you will always be with me and I know you know that I pray to you all the time.  We will see each other again someday.  I miss you so much.  You will be loved and missed.  I love you popou.
Love your granddaughter, Zoe Karpouzis. Forever loved and will always be missed..

With fond and lasting memories of Andy at the steak shop on King Street to visiting in the early morning with Dad at the Captain’s.
