Alex G. Baxter, 35
LtCmdr. Alex G. Baxter died peacefully at Lancashire Hall on December 10, 2006. Born on February 10, 1923 in New York City, he was the son of the late George and Victoria Bloumellis Bocsusis. He was married on December 26, 1949 to Athena (Giores) Baxter.
A 1939 graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School, he received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, and finally a Masters in Statistics from St. Joseph University.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Coast Guard, then the Navy in the North Sea wars and retired from the reserves after 30 years of service.
He worked for Oscar Meyer, GE Re-entry Systems, and Haverford Township.
He was a member of the St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox choir, AHEPA, and the Hellenic University Club.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Alexis V. Fitzpatrick of Lancaster, a son, George K. of Colorado, 2 grandchildren, Roxanne A. and Keith J. Baxter of Colorado, 2 goddaughters, Stephanie Hummel of Delaware and Joanna Nouragas of Media, PA, and brother, George Baxtar of Florida. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gus Baxter and Peter Bocsusis.
Services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2006 starting at 10:00 AM with a viewing, followed by the 11:00 AM Service at St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alex’s memory may be sent to the Fisher House Foundation, 1401 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852.
