Adelaide E. O’Kane, 87

September 09, 2015

Adelaide E. O’Kane, 87, of Willow Street, PA went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.
She was born on December 21, 1927 in Newark, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late Philip O’Kane and Margaret (Russell) O’Kane. She was predeceased by two siblings, Arthur Chalmers and Irwin Russell Chalmers and by one nephew, Philip Cook. She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Coull of Willow Street, PA and Louella Cook, wife of Charles Cook, Landisville, PA, five nieces and nephews, Russell, Robin, Richard, Pam and Todd, and sixteen great nieces and nephews, Somer, Ashley, Shannon, Matt, Dusty, Cody, Sean, Gabby, Jocelyn, Ryan, Jordan, Krista, Karly, Paige, Cyrus and Claudia.
Known fondly as Aunt Addie, she was proud of all her nieces and nephews and revelled in their accomplishments and successes.
In her earlier years, she was involved with several children’s ministries and taught Sunday School. She was an animal lover and owned many pets over the years. She also was an avid sports fan and followed the Yankees and N.Y. Giants. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for her blueberry muffins and apple pies. She loved to shop and was always fashionably dressed. Aunt Addie had her own unique flare in everything she did and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lancaster General Hospital, Willow Valley Arbor View and Hospice for the compassionate care in her final days.
Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Humane League, 2195 Lincoln Hwy East. Lancaster, PA 17602.

Condolences to the Family

We lived across the N 9th St and attended Newark C&MAA Church. This is Gordon Smith. My wife is Ruth but residing in Heaven since 2/20/2012. We now live in Fort Wayne, IN. Our 2 girls were born when we lived in the 4th fl walkup apt at 105 N 9th. We became good friends with the O’Kane family. Jack Cameron just died last year at the Alliance Home in FL, age 100. Here in Fort Wayne lives Ruth Henry Steiner. She was marriwed at the church in 1951. I was church sexton & cleaned up from their wedding. I guess Evelyn was married the 2nd time as we remembered her as Evelyn Chalmers. Love to hear from you folks. My email is ruthandgb@frontier.com Sounds like you have a great family, Louella. God bless you both! Nahum 1:7 In Christ, Gordon
