December 09, 2015
Ada Ruth Bentman, 91, of Blossom Hill Drive, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at Moravian Manor, Lititz, PA.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the loving wife of Dr. Julius “J.J.” Bentman and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on November 22nd. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Henrietta Starrer Kaplan.
Ada loved life and her family. She worked side by side with Dr. Bentman early in his dental practice on Chestnut Street, Lancaster, and subsequently served as controller. At one time she worked as a secretary for the former American Insurance, Inc. in Philadelphia and then worked as an administrative assistant for the Lt. Colonel, Officers Personnel, 9th Army at Fort Lewis, Washington. She volunteered much of her time in Lancaster with Neighborhood Services, Planned Parenthood at Franklin and Marshall College and Lancaster General Hospital and the Community Action Program. She was also a great supporter for the Toys for Tots program, helping out as others celebrated their holidays. She was a Girl Scout leader and took time to breed dachshunds, as she was a lover of all animals. She collected Japanese netsukes, was a great cook, and enjoyed art museums, classical music, roses from their garden, and traveling with JJ, the love of her life.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Adrienne L., Bentman, MD, West Hartford, CT and Mara L. Bentman, LICSW, Ed.M, wife of Joseph C. LoPresti, Medford, MA and two grandchildren, Gabriel P. Silverman and Alexandra L. Silverman.

Dear Dr. Bentman and Family,
While you do not know me, my father, Clifton E. Benson, DDS, a dentist in Lancaster for many years, was a friend and patient of yours long ago. He would often tell me about the Bentmans, Ada and J.J., and how much he enjoyed knowing you over many years’ time. He told me as a child about Mrs. Bentman’s lovely long braids! Though my parents have passed on many years ago, I just wanted you to know that our family sends deepest sympathy regarding the loss of your wife. We will keep you close in our thoughts and prayers in these days ahead.
Most sincerely,
Deborah Benson Everett, Oak Bluffs, MA
