A. Leonard Witkonis, 72

A. Leonard Witkonis, 72, of Lancaster, passed away after a long illness on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, PA.

Our father and husband was a much-loved man who had many interests and talents.  He was born in Mahanoy City, PA to the late Adam W. and Constance M. (Stashitas) Witkonis.

Len is survived by his wife Marie C. (Savoca) Witkonis of Lancaster. They were married in Lititz at St. James Catholic Church and celebrated 45 years of marriage on June 5, 2010.

Len was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1956 and Franklin & Marshall College in 1964, where he was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.  In the middle of his college years, he served in the US Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Len was an accountant for the majority of his life and retired from the State of Pennsylvania. He was the owner and operator of the former Jolly Coppersmith Inn in Etters, PA.

Len was a member and treasurer of the BPO Elks #134 and was also a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz. He was captain of his Bocci team, Team No. 8, held a HAM radio license and was on the Lancaster County Democratic Committee.  He was an avid reader (especially history), gardner (especially roses), and an award-winning amateur photographer.  Len also designed and crafted his own stained glass.  Despite his numerous activities, he always had time to be a loving husband, caring father, and loyal friend.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Anne M. Witkonis, of Lancaster, son, Adam J. Witkonis, of Lancaster, and a sister, Diane M. Witkonis, of  Fresno,CA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Len’s Funeral Service on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr.  Funeral Home & Chapel 3110 Lititz Pk. Lititz, PA 17543 at 12noon with  the Rev. Paul J. Theisz officiating. Following the prayer service, the Elk’s presentation and Military Honors will be presented. A closed casket visitation will be held at Snyder’s from 11-12noon. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 10:30am. Interment will be private in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Len’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House 3925 Chestnut St. Philadelphia, PA 19104. I am sorry that I will not be able attend the services. I enjoyed being around Len going and coming back to work. I know how it is to lose someone, my wife died in 2008.
