William. W. Stewart, 88
William W. “Bill” Stewart, 88, of Lancaster, PA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Calvary Homes. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Robert and Emily (MacArthur) Stewart.
Bill was the husband of Hazel G. (Gabriel) Stewart of seventeen years. They were married on December 12, 1992.
Bill was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII aboard the USS Fayette. Bill was in six major engagements in the Pacific Theatre including the Marshall Islands, Guam, Iwo Jima, Nagasaki, and Yokohama.
Bill was a machinist in Philadelphia for Link Belt Heavy Equipment for forty-five years.
When living in Philadelphia he served on several church boards for Bethany Temple, Oreland Presbyterian, and Chelten Baptist.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, his men’s breakfast group, reading, watching college football especially the University of Florida Gators, and wintering in Fort Lauderdale, FL for the last fifteen years.
In addition to his wife Hazel, he is survived by, three children, Linda Lackey, wife of David, of White Salmon, WA, Christine Stroud, wife of William, of Philadelphia, David Stewart, husband of Cheryl, of Meadow Brook, PA, three step-children, Patricia Snyder, wife of Richard, of Coconut Creek, FL, Janice Booth, wife of William, of Newtown Square, PA, John Penrose, husband of Gretchen, of Nantucket, MA, fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Stewart, of Philadelphia.
Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend the Funeral Service from Westminster Presbyterian Church 2151 Oregon Pk. Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2pm with The Rev. Dr. Michael Rogers officiating. A visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. Private burial and Military Honors will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Homes Benevolent Fund 502 Elizabeth Dr. Lancaster, PA 17601 or Westminster Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
