August 05, 2016

Wesley S. “Bill” Grover, Jr., 79, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 5, 2016, after a courageous and long battle with lung cancer. Born in Kearny, NJ, he was the son of the late Wesley S. Grover, Sr. and Dorothy (Pembleton) Grover. He was the loving husband of Beatrice “Susan” D. Grover. They were high school sweethearts and shared close to 60 years of marriage.
Bill graduated from Barringer High School in 1955; completed the Dale Carnegie Course in Public Speaking and Human Relations in 1962 and graduated from the Academy of Advanced Traffic School in New York in 1967. He was a 1970 graduate of Rutgers University. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in October 1962. Bill was a true patriot who loved his country and was a WW II history buff.
He was a competitive bridge player who achieved the rank of Silver Life Master. With his wife, he taught and ran bridge games on cruise ships around the world. Most recently, he directed the bridge games at Willow Valley Retirement Community.
Bill was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lancaster. He was an avid and lifelong fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees and the New York Knicks. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters: Karen D. Grover (deceased), Sheryl L. Fisher wife of Gary of Manheim, Lisa S. Grover, wife of Tom Swisstack of Rio Rancho, NM, and Nancy E. Styer, wife of Dean of Lancaster. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Melissa, D.J., Joshua, Nathaniel “Kai”, Hannah, Jordan, Taylor and three brothers-in-law: Joseph, Thomas and Edward. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill’s Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603, at 11 AM, with the Rev. Michael Messner as Celebrant. A private interment and farewell will take place at St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent in Bill’s memory to the Manheim VFW Post #956, Veterans Affiliation Only, 149 S. Charlotte St, Manheim, PA 17545. My sympathies to Susan & family on the passing of Wes. Having professionally  reported to him for many years , he was a true person who was always willing to stand up for what was right. He was respected & well liked by those who knew him. He was a genuinely diligent worker who gave it his best & contributed greatly to RCA, ultimately as Division Manager of Transportation. I will be out of the country next week , but my thoughts will be with him. God Bless.
Best regards to Susan & the girls.
