Virginia Marie Witney, 78

Virginia Marie (Luther) Witney, 78, of Lititz, PA, formerly from Pittsburgh, passed away on Sunday evening, October 28, 2012 surrounded by family.

She was born Oct. 20, 1934 in West Homestead, PA and was the daughter of the late William E. and Virginia (West) Luther; adored wife of Richard P. Witney, devoted mother of Beth Jack (Chet) of Pittsburgh, PA; Bruce Witney (Keumme) of Pleasanton, CA; Douglas (Amy) Witney of Blacksburg VA.; and Brian Witney of Tucson, AZ; loving grandmother of Nathan Cunningham, Anthony Jack, Chester Jack, Alex Witney and Anna Witney; sister of June (Leo) Cardosi and Ruth (Al) Ardinger, William (Ruby) Luther; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Education and taught in the North Hills School District of Allegheny County, and Alcoa, TN.  At Duquesne, She was a member of the Alpha Phi Omicron-Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, the Red Masquers and was President of the Catholic Student Association. She was a past President of the Peters Township PA School Board and served on the Board for 13 years and was a strong proponent of the Arts in Education. She was also a past President of the South Hills Area School Districts Association (SHASDA) and served as Washington County Legislative Chairman for the PA School Board Association (PSBA).

She was a local Antique Dealer, exhibiting her antiques at shops and shows in PA, OH and WV, most recently in Lititz, PA.

Family and friends will be welcomed at the Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon (412-531-5100) Sunday afternoon from 1:00–4:00. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the Duquesne University Chapel (In the Administration Building-Old Main) 600 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA Monday morning at 10:30 followed by lunch for those attending in room 613 of the Student Union. If desired, the family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604; or to Duquesne University Chapel, 600 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15282.
