Virginia Browne Snyder, 78

Virginia Browne Snyder, 78, passed away April 8, 2008 at the Zerbe Sisters Nursing Home in Narvon, PA where she had been a resident the past 5 years, having previously moved from Lindenwold, NJ where she was a resident for 23 years and prior to that on the “Main Line” outside of Philadelphia where she was born and raised and spent much of her adult life.  She was born March 27, 1930 in Wayne, PA to the late Frank Atwood and Edna Dever Browne.

She graduated in 1948 from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA.  She had a brief modeling career and was featured in an advertisement in Look Magazine for Ponds beauty cream.   She was very active in the community and was member of The Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania, The Strawberry Mansion Committee, The Appleford Committee, The Suburban Hill Auxillary of The Cooper Medical Center.  With an active interest in history, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists and most recently served as President of The Rancocaas Valley Chapter in Southern New Jeresey of The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century where she had the opportunity to meet former first lady Barbara Bush at the White House during a Colonial Dames event.   In 1999 she had a chance for a once in a lifetime cruise through the Panama Canal where she got to see firsthand the locks that her father had helped design as part of the original engineering team under George Goethals.  She served on and led many charities over the years, raising a lot of money for worthy causes.  As Chairman of a very large charity house tour in Darien, CT she was able to personally persuade world renowned photographer Margaret Bourke-White to open her house to visitors shortly before her death, which made for a sellout event.

She is survived by her daughter Jinny of New Providence, PA and her sons Jeremy and Erik, her son George of Aurora, IL and his son Kit and his daughters Jessie and Maggie and her son Joe of Red Hook, NY and his daughter Sarah and his son Drew as well as 3 great grand-children and her brother Frank.  She is preceded in death by her husband George M. Snyder and her parents.

A seaside memorial service will be held Saturday April 19th in Cape May, NJ aboard the Sea Star III docked at Miss Chris Marina on 2nd Ave & Route 109.  The boat will depart at 4:00 pm.  For further directions, see www.seastariii.com or call 609.884.3421.
