Urania Claire (Brockie) Suess, 81

April 25, 2014

Urania Claire (Brockie) Suess, 81, of Lancaster, died suddenly Friday, April 25, 2014 in her residence.
Born in Hartford, CT, she was the wife of Frederick F. Suess of Lancaster, and the daughter of the late Samuel and Edna (Dunnigan) Brockie.
She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, where she was a leader for many years. She was also a former member of the Lancaster Liederkranz.
Urania loved to crochet and knit. She would make hats that she would donate to the Lancaster General Hospital Cancer Center for the patients who had lost their hair.
She collected bells and enjoyed watching the many birds that would gather at the feeders she placed around her home.
Urania and her husband enjoyed a good road trip, especially if it involved a stop at a casino. She was self-taught and an avid reader of great intelligence. “Jeopardy” was one of her favorite shows.
Part of her life was spent working in a bindery, rectory, and a bank, but she devoted most of her life to being a homemaker and caring for her large family.
In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, she is survived by 7 children and their spouses: Christine M. Ginnett of Lancaster; Robert J. Suess (Sharon) of Columbia; Michael D. (Robin E.) of Landisville; James F. (Ruthie) of Richland, WA; William A. (Terry) of Milton, DE; Joseph P. (Robin V.) of Lancaster; and Colleen T. Markle (Jeff) of Dover, PA; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and their husbands: Kathleen Hornish (Thomas) and Edna Mae Schmid (Paul), all of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Martin of Lancaster;
and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Brockie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions in Urania’s memory may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 1760
