Stanley C. “Shenny” Schoenberger, 85

Stanley C. “Shenny” Schoenberger, 85, of Lititz, passed away at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy on Monday, May 12, 2014.

He was the husband of Judy C. Troutman Schoenberger, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage this past November 21st. They were married on the “Bride and Groom” TV show in New York City. Born in Akron, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Crowther Schoenberger.

Shenny was a 1947 graduate of Lititz High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball, playing QB and HB on the 1945 undefeated football team. He then graduated from East Stroudsburg University, where he majored in Biology and Physical Education and participated in football and wrestling. He later attained his Master’s Degree from Temple University and did graduate studies at the Univ. of North Carolina, New Mexico Western Univ., and Penn State.

He was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War as a SSgt, and then receiving a commission in 1953, attaining the rank of First Lt.

Shenny returned from his service and taught from 1956 to 1985 at Warwick High School as a Biology teacher and was chairman of the Science Dept. He was the school football coach, being awarded Coach of the Year in 1962 by the Quarterback Club, and was the assistant wrestling coach as well. While teaching, and after his retirement, he had worked as a science consultant and photographer at Grant Heilman Photography.

He received the Lititz Citizenship Award in 1962 and was past president of the Warwick Alumni Assn.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his sons: Dirk, married to Kathy of Lititz and Shaun married to Alida of Lititz; his 3 grandchildren Drew, Alison, and Wade and his 2 great granddaughters Nora and Reagan.

Shenny’s family would like to invite those who knew him to gather with them at the General Sutter Inn, 14 E. Main St, Lititz, PA on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 for a time of sharing and fellowship at 7PM.

Another member of the Class of ’61 fondly remembers Mr. Schoenberger.  He had the unenviable job of trying to get high schoolers interested in Biology, but he was very successful at doing it.  My condolences to his family.  Bob Peiffer

Dirk and family, I’m so sorry to read of your fathers passing.  He was one of my favorite teachers, a great coach and all round good man.  He will always be remembered fondly by the many students and athlete who were privileged to have had him as a teacher and advisor.  My sympathies, Donna (Schmeck) Floyd, Class of 73

Stan was my biology teacher, my football coach and my boss for many years at Warwick. I admired him very much for his straight forward  approach in solving problems.  He touched the lives of so many and will be missed. Rod Welch

My deepest sympathy to all Shenny’s family and close friends.  He was a wonderful teacher and a valued member of the staff at WHS.
